Internet trends allow many of us to get through the day. When it’s Monday at 1 p.m. and you feel like falling asleep at your desk, a good meme is always appreciated. One of the original memes on the internet was a cultural phenomenon known as “Grumpy Cat.”
Grumpy Cat was a cat celebrity known for her incredibly funny facial expressions.
Officially named Tardar Sauce, Grumpy Cat was more commonly known by the grumpy moniker. The signature look of the cat was hilarious but actually caused by a physical deformity. Tardar Sauce suffered from dwarfism and an underbite that caused the famous scowl.
The first photo of the cat was posted to Reddit in 2012 and subsequently blew up across all major platforms.
At the time of the post, YouTube was garnering massive popularity and people absolutely loved the cat who looked so mean. Tardar Sauce is a mixed breed cat but has the aforementioned feline dwarfism. When asked questions on Grumpy Cat’s looks, their owner said:
Tardar Sauce visites the vet regularly and she has a clean bill of health. Her petite size and famous face is likely due to feline dwarfism and her rear end wobbles a bit when she walks due to this; otherwise she is a perfect little kitty! She is not a munchkin cat and was not bred purposefully from other munchkin cats. (We don’t breed kitty’s and her parents are normal sized domestic short hair cats.)
The Grumpy Empire was built from the memes and videos.
With the fame of the cat growing, people flocked to see the cat in live shows and in videos. The cat even has her own Wikipedia page! Unfortunately, there were some health complications that came up in 2019.
On May 14, 2019, Grumpy Cat passed away.
Sadly, the little cat passed away about a year ago. The cause was from some serious complications that came from a urinary tract infection. The entire family was completely heartbroken.
