Sergeant Jacob Fisher is a Marine who spent years in Afghanistan. In 2014, Fisher was deployed for his third tour in the country. One day, Fisher heard about a small animal who was stuck in a trap just outside of the base. Fisher went to investigate and found the tiniest puppy staring up at him.
Fisher brought the puppy back to base, and he and the other Marines quickly fell in love with the little animal. Fisher named the puppy Jax.
Jax loved Fisher more than anything in the world, and Fisher loved him back. Fisher said Jax could always cheer him up when he was having a rough day.
“It’s amazing how something so small, a little dog like Jax, can just cheer you up when you’re having a bad day,” Fisher said.
After seven months in Afghanistan, it was time for Fisher to go home. And he knew he wanted to take Jax with him.
Fisher reached out to SPCA International, and they said they would transport Jax to the United States through their military support program. Fisher said goodbye to Jax, counting down the days until they could see each other again.
After two months at home, Fisher received word that Jax had left Afghanistan and was heading to his home state of California.
Fisher was so excited to see Jax again. The Marine, his wife Michelle, and his son headed over to the airport to meet the puppy. Fisher decided not to tell his son who they were going to meet—he wanted it to be a surprise!
At the airport, Fisher and his family anxiously waited for Jax to arrive. Fisher worried that Jax wouldn’t recognize him.
Finally, Fisher received word that Jax was outside. He went out and said hello to his best buddy. Jax immediately licked Fisher’s face—he was so excited to see the Marine.
Fisher was amazed by how much Jax had grown in the months since they last saw each other. He wasn’t a puppy anymore!
Fisher, his family, and Jax headed home, and Jax settled into his new house. He and Fisher’s son quickly bonded, which Fisher was happy to see.
A few months after the reunion, Michelle shared an update. She said everything was going well!
“I just wanted to post a quick update. Jax is doing really well. Him and our son have quite the bond which makes me so happy. He has lost all his puppy fur so he looks completely different. He’s a very happy and energetic dog and we couldn’t be happier that he’s here with us,” Fisher’s wife Michelle wrote on YouTube.
Fisher also started a Facebook page where he shares photos of Jax and his family. It’s clear that the dog is well-loved and well taken care of!
