Molly was going to be a big sister, so she naturally needed her own room now that the baby was on her way.

Experts say that preparing a dog for a new baby in the house is crucial.

“When you bring a new baby home, your dog will face an overwhelming number of novel sights, sounds, and smells. She may find some of them upsetting, especially if she didn’t have opportunities to spend time with children as a puppy,” the ASPCA reports.

“You’ll drastically alter your daily routine, so your dog’s schedule will change, too. And, out of necessity, she’ll get less of your time and attention.”

“It may be a difficult time for her, especially if she’s been the ‘only child’ for a while. To make things go as smoothly as possible for everyone, it’s important to take some time to prepare your dog for the arrival of your new addition.”

So that’s exactly what Molly’s dad, Michael McGowan did.

“She is the best wee dog who had been very spoiled up to this point, so we didn’t want her to feel less important when the baby arrived!” Michael told Bored Panda.

He decided that the space underneath the stairs would serve as a perfect area where Molly could get away and have her own special place to be.

“I had a small idea, and wasn’t even sure if it would be possible to achieve,” Michael told MyBuilder.com. “I wanted to use what I thought was ‘dead space’ under the stairs to build a small space for our dog,”

First, he had to check and see if this dead space existed.

So, he cut out a hole and sure enough, the space would do just fine. He found about 4 square meters to work with. He placed a door frame around the room and plasterboarded the inside.

He added some brick and doggie wallpaper, mood color changing lighting, flooring boards, a custom made “Molly’s Room” sign, and a luxurious silver velour couch.

He added a few photos of Molly and her friends on the walls, a doormat, a nice fluffy rug, and a giant soft pillow to sleep on.

Of course, all of Molly’s toys and stuff animals were placed neatly in her room as well. And she absolutely loved it!

“Although a relatively small job the end result is outstanding… the best doghouse in the country, bar none!!” Michael said.
