One day in May, Steve Knoop was driving when he encountered a fawn in dire need of assistance.
The little creature was lying on the road, trying to hide itself in a way that made it look like an unfortunate victim of traffic.
As Steve approached, he noticed the fawn’s awkward position, with its legs splayed in every direction and its head resting on the road.
He was surprised to see it was still breathing.
The fawn, adorned with a spray of bright white dots on its fur, was clearly very young, likely only a couple of months old.
The men watched as the fawn took powerful breaths, its stomach rising and falling.
Its eyes blinked slowly as they approached, but it didn’t startle or run away.
The men knew they had to act quickly as the fawn was in the middle of the road, a dangerous place for such a vulnerable creature.
About 45 seconds into their observation, Steve and his companion noticed the fawn’s mother watching anxiously from the nearby forest.
They debated what to do, knowing they couldn’t just leave the fawn there.
Finally, a man named Paul decided to take action.
Paul carefully approached the fawn, ensuring not to startle it.
He gently scooped up the baby, its limbs still tucked awkwardly beneath its body.
As soon as Paul moved the fawn off the road, it realized what was happening and began to struggle a bit more.
However, Paul’s steady hands ensured the fawn was safely carried away from the danger of the road without a scratch.
The moment Paul released the fawn, it wasted no time.
It immediately dashed off to reunite with its waiting mother.
