Horses are animals who love to have the freedom to roam around. They’re born with long legs that are ideal for running on, along with great eyesight and almost 360-degree vision. In fact, nothing is more of a symbol of freedom than that of a horse running down a field, with its mane blowing in the wind and hooves galloping.
Horses (along with every other animal we can think of) simply don’t deserve to be chained up. It’s not in their nature to stand in one spot all day, and they deserve the freedom to stretch their legs. But sadly, in some areas of the world it is common for horses to be chained so that they are unable to live their best lives.
In parts of Romania, horses’ back or front legs are chained together in order to hinder them from running away. The result is that the horse is unable to move easily, and their frequent attempts to free themselves result in deep cuts in their legs where the chains have dug in.
The chained horses must be so frightened and confused, and it really is one of the cruelest ways of keeping a horse on your property.
So when an animal rescue vet from FOUR PAWS named Ovidiu came across a chained horse in Letea, Romania, he instantly knew that he had to help free the poor animal. A member of the team managed to capture the whole process on video, and the horse has the most heartwarming way of thanking the man for its rescue.
The video was shared onto YouTube by FOUR PAWS International, and since being posted it has racked up an impressive 13.8 million views from people all over the world who felt gratitude towards Ovidiu for his amazing work.
The video begins with a shot of the chained horse in question, as it attempts to move around the field. The poor horse can only hop and it is clearly feeling a lot of distress as Ovidiu watches on.
The vet is determined to help the horse be freed, and he wastes no time in tranquilizing the scared creature so that he can remove the chains. When Ovidiu checks over the condition of the horse’s legs, the consequences of being chained up all day immediately become apparent. The poor animal’s legs are marked with deep lacerations from the chains, and they have clearly been causing the horse a lot of pain.
Thankfully, Ovidiu is able to successfully cut the chains off the horse, and within no time the animal is beginning to wake. The team watch in anticipation to see how the horse will react to being free, and the ending of the video will truly warm your hearts.
As the horse stands properly for the first time in possibly years, you can instantly see how grateful it is, and before running free with its friends, the horse stops to do one special thing.
Ovidiu is crouched on the floor, making sure that the horse is comfortably standing on its legs. So he is somewhat taken by surprise when the horse bows its head and plants a kiss right on his forehead!
The horse then runs free with its friends, and Ovidiu and his team can leave happily, knowing that they successfully freed another horse. What an amazing organization!
