We’ve heard of people using a flute to charm snakes, but what about horses? Well after one man played a song on his flute to some horses, we can confirm that they do indeed like the sound! Granted, they might not go into a serious trance like snakes do, but we’d say that these horses were still pretty charmed nonetheless.

The video, titled: ‘ Man captivates horses with native flute,’ was uploaded onto YouTube by Rumble Viral and since has gained over 1.1 million views. The clip was filmed at At the Animu Luce horse farm in Belgium, and it features a man called Michael Telapary as he plays a tune on a High Spirits Contra Bass for his horses.

“Last time when I played the flute for the horses, I played a very high flute- and especially on the high notes, they don’t really like it,” Michael said. “So now I’m going to play on an f#- it’s a very low, deep tone. Let’s see if they like it and if they will stay for my playing.”

When Michael begins to play, it is initially only one horse that’s interested.

The brown horse puts her nose to the flute and peers at it curiously, as if she’s thinking: “Where is this magnificent sound coming from?” The other horse further down the field glances at the flute every so often, but he’s not as interested as the first horse.

“She seems to like it,” Micheal tells the camera. “Let’s see what the other ones do when I play.”

Micheal then begins to play to another horse – brown with a white stripe on its nose. The horse seems fascinated by the sound and stares at Micheal as if transfixed. Then all of a sudden he starts to roll around on the floor, putting his legs up in the air and showing off his tummy.

We can’t be sure that this burst of playful energy didn’t just come from the horse having an itchy back – but we like to believe that it was as a result of Michael’s flute playing skills! Either way, it’s pretty adorable to watch.

The brown horse becomes so fascinated with the flute that he has to stand up and move closer. He begins to sniff it like the first horse did and seems to fall into a kind of trance.

The flute has also caught the attention of another horse. A white horse who was lingering in the background is drawn over by the noise, and she too wants to give the flute a good sniff. Micheal is like the horse whisperer of Belgium!

Just to be fair, Micheal turns his flute toward the white horse so that she can get a closer look at it, and the other horse seems to fall out of his trance. It’s amazing to see what the power of music can do to animals! The flute may have a special effect on horses for one particular reason:

“Horses are very auditory creatures (they need to be since their eyesight is not so great),” one user commented. “They definitely have sound preferences, like any living thing would. I think it soothes them.”

We bet these horses would be quite happy for the flute to be played to them every day! Watch the sweet video below.
