Pet homelessness is unfortunately still rampant today. It’s sad to say, but it’s still impossible to eliminate this problem with irresponsible pet owners who dump their poor pets on the roadside. However, governments around the world are working hard to find ways to address this problem.
Some willing people also have their ways of dealing with the problem.
Lots of rescue groups and non-profit pet shelter organizations help pets find new, suitable homes. Most of the time, they use their own money to keep their shelter running, although people are encouraged to donate any amount to support them.
While each of these organizations has its unique way of handling this kind of service, all of them share the same goal – to rescue animals and provide them the best care they could give.
One man has a unique way of publicizing the issue of homeless pets. This man opened a restaurant that caters toward homeless dogs.
This Japanese-inspired restaurant is exquisite and big enough to cater to a horde of people. However, the first customers to walk by their door are a bunch of homeless dogs. The name of the restaurant is DOGIHANA and it is owned by Rocky Kanaka.
Rocky is a famous TV host and an actor, and he is also a full-time pet rescue advocate. He continuously spreads awareness about homeless pets while traveling around North America.
It was always Rocky’s dream to open a restaurant for dogs.
This time, he finally succeeded in turning his dreams into reality and we get to witness it firsthand. In the video he released on YouTube, Kanaka went into specifics about how the restaurant was built and even let us see how they operate it.
He invited Zach Skow, a founder of Marley’s Mutts Dogs Rescue, along with some of his rescue dogs; namely, Frank, Golden Ramsay the golden retriever, and the two-legged Cora Rose.
Kanaka prepared a yummy menu for his doggy customers.
Every restaurant has a special menu set to offer to its customers, and DOGIHANA has one to cater to their canine customers. In their special menu called Rocky’s Choice, they have a fresh veggie salad and shrimp cutlets as an appetizer, complemented with a warm soup of bone broth.
For the main course, Rocky prepared a special chicken fried rice. Lastly, Rocky included a cold sweet treat for the dogs – their exclusive doggy ice cream.
Finally, it’s time for the dogs to eat.
After showing his customers around the restaurant, Rocky and Zach carried the dogs to the dining table and let the dogs sit in their laps. They first let the dog eat some leafy greens and crunchy carrots. Cora Rose was munching through the carrot like a real bunny. Kanaka then served the miso soup bowls; however, none of the dogs seemed to like it.
As the bone broth did not work out, Rocky did not want to disappoint them further so he began prepping the shrimp. They had a fun time tossing the shrimps into the dog’s mouths even though the dogs could not catch it most of the time.
When Zach swapped roles with Rocky, Golden Ramsay was able to catch some shrimps successfully. Lastly, Rocky served the main course and the ice cream, but suddenly, more customers walked in to taste their food.
The restaurant opens opportunities for homeless dogs to be adopted.
