Africa is a mysterious and wonderful place. The second largest continent boasts of numerous climates, majestic sights, and incredible wildlife. This is a place of many stories, and is the subject of many books and films. In fact, it even has its own soundtrack so to speak, courtesy of the band Toto’s hit, “Africa“.

Here are a few stories from Africa to local zoos.

It’s a common occurrence in Africa. Anywhere you turn, you’re bound to see the local wildlife. And while that may be what tourists want, the locals aren’t necessarily always okay with it. This man heard the cries of the villagers regarding a Baboon on the roof of a building. Now this guy has nerves of steel. He climbs the outer wall to try and chase away the animal.

He could have called the experts.

Now Baboons have been known to be aggressive at times. Especially when scared or threatened. They can thrive anywhere, especially where there is an abundance of food. As the man gets close, the omnivorous monkey turns toward the man and lunges at him.

The man fell several stories.

He broke his arm from the fall. This is why wild animals are best left to the experts. But of course you can’t blame him for wanting to get rid of the animal. The women and children were probably scared and he thought he’d try to deal with the situation. A for effort.

This attracts tourists from all over the world, but the pandemic has put a stop to the influx of guests. The locals in charge of the tours are feeling it seeing as they rely on the money brought by tourists. And when there’s no money, people go hungry. Some are concerned that people may turn to hunting for food, which could potentially introduce animal born diseases and affect the population of the species.

Rhino party!

This is Edward the southern white Rhino. The San Diego Zoo went ahead and threw a party for Edward’s very first birthday. This little Rhino has hay, treats, and toys to satisfy the child in him. He’s only a year old but already weighs in at 1,500 pounds! Why’s he special?

Well he is the first Rhino calf in North America to be conceived by artificial insemination. This is good news for all Rhino species. Even for the eastern black Rhinoceros whose numbers are dwindling. An adult male had to be euthanized due to age related issues but not to worry. He’s fathered little ones to carry on the family name.

These Rhinos will live on.

This little Chimpanzee was born at a Spanish wildlife park. The heartbreaking part was that his mom rejected him. The good news is that humans stepped in to care for the little primate. That is until they found him a new family who gladly took the little monkey in!
