Generally, when we don’t want something, we toss it and never think about it again. But all that stuff ends up somewhere. Matter can neither be created nor destroyed, after all.
Long-lasting materials are often discarded entirely too soon, sometimes even after a single use.
City streets are a bastion of forgotten trash, and some of it certainly still has value.
But as they say, one person’s trash is another person’s treasure!
Meet Brazilian artist and entrepreneur Amarildo Silva. He’s become somewhat of a hero in recent years.
Amarildo’s always adored animals, spending chunks of his daily life dedicated to helping the disenfranchised. In fact, he’s dedicated over 15 years to helping animals!
He’s somewhat of a homemaker, crafting comfortable, colorful beds for dogs. But these aren’t your typical kennels.
His secret ingredient? Tires.
Amarildo and his team do it all, from finding the discarded tires to coloring them and fitting them for healthy living.
It all started a couple of years ago when Amarildo was pondering ways to make some extra cash with available materials.
He figured he might as well reuse old products and give back to his community, hopefully turning a profit in the process.
Now, Amarildo has quite the production line!
Repurposing used tires helps remove waste from the streets while providing homes for dogs that don’t have one.
Thanks to Amarildo and his friends, these dogs have a cozy place to sleep!
They’re getting the full treatment here, including a soothing washdown!
The full process is simple. Amarildo and his team find and then separate the tires, proceeding to cut them. Finally, they paint them, adding unique designs to each.
Amarildo specially personalizes every bed for each new resident.
These tire creations are both innovative and adorable.
And the local dogs certainly love them!

These are only a handful of the lives that Amarildo has affected. The dogs surely are appreciative of his efforts and kindness.
They’re his biggest fan!
Now, these once homeless dogs have beautifully unique spaces to rest and relax. The ground’s not exactly the most comfortable bed in the world!
