Hunter Gibson was at work one day when he realized he forgot something in his garage.
He was beyond busy, but he had to go back to get it. He arrived home and hopped out for only a couple minutes to grab what he needed so he could get back to business.
When he hopped back in his truck, he was surprised to see a strange dog curled up in the passenger’s seat.
Gibson wasn’t sure where the dog came from or how he got in the car, but he was clearly in need of help. Gibson couldn’t believe how comfortable the dog appeared. It was like he knew he was in a safe place and had found someone to care for him.
Gibson explained:
“I was in awe. It was almost like he had been in that truck a hundred times. He was so calm and happy it was adorable. He let out one of those relaxed sighs and then immediately closed his eyes and tried to relax.”
He thought the dog seemed exhausted, and he assumed the dog belonged to someone in the neighborhood.
Although he was very busy that day, he knew he had to help this dog. He decided to drop what he was doing and find out where this dog belonged. He drove around the neighborhood but wasn’t sure where to find the dog’s family.
He turned to social media and was able to locate the family. He called them, but nobody answered. He knew he couldn’t just leave the dog at their home, so he took the dog home for the night and decided to call the family again in the morning.
When he got back to his home, he tried to coax the dog out of the truck, but he didn’t have any luck.
The dog seemed to be happy right where he was. Gibson wasn’t about to leave him in the truck all night, though. He said:
“He did not want to move. He just wanted to sleep in my front seat. He wouldn’t move on his own, no amount of treats or pets would get him out. I ended up having to pick him up and move him.”
The next morning, the dog’s family called Gibson back.
They were so glad that someone had found their missing dog, and they were a little embarrassed when they heard about how he refused to get out of the truck.
They were thankful that Gibson was so kind to their dog and not only was willing to spend the day looking for them but also kept him comfortable and safe all night. They couldn’t wait to get him back.
Gibson wasn’t sure if the dog would willingly get out of his truck even at his own home.
Luckily, the dog was happy to see his family. Gibson said:
“He was returned home to a very thankful and loving family. It ended up being a happy reunion for all!”
Gibson is still not sure how or why the dog got into his truck or why he was so comfortable there, but he is glad that he could reunite the dog with his family.
The dog must have known that Gibson was going to help him, and he wasn’t going anywhere until he found his family.
If the dog ever escapes from his yard again, there’s probably a good chance he will end up back at Gibson’s truck. At least the next time, Gibson will know whom the dog belongs to and will be able to take him for a little ride and then return him to his family again.
