Anyone who rescues a stranded or homeless dog deserves a round of applause. However, when doing so, you never know what situation the animal was previously in or what sort of experiences that have been through. Their physical and mental health may be compromised, and rescuers have to be willing to deal with that.

Atlanta, Georgia was experiencing horrible flooding when a family noticed a dog wading in the water near a mailbox.

“I pulled over and called him to me, he immediately came, wagging his tail. He looked incredibly skinny and rough,” the man who noticed the dog said on Imgur.

The Golden Retriever was extremely friendly and clearly excited for attention, however, he was in terrible shape. As it turns out, the poor pup had been living in the Georgia woods for three weeks after running away from an animal hoarding situation.

The precious pup was happy, but also emaciated, filthy, and in desperate need of a bath and some medical attention.

The man scooped the dog into his car and immediately took him home to give him a bath. On his post, the man explains that the retriever was so dirty that the bathtub was the only place he could really be, but no matter how much they scrubbed, they couldn’t get the dog clean.

The next morning, the dog woke up looking exhausted and out of sorts, so the man who rescued him knew he had to get him to the veterinarian. The medical exam would reveal the devastating and heartbreaking truth as to what was ailing the sweet dog.

After a vet examined the rescue dog, they found that he was 25 pounds underweight, had the most worms a dog could possibly have, and had over 200 ticks that took over 2 days to remove.

The vet clinic found that the poor dog had every type of worm imaginable including hook, ring, and heartworms. He would need to stay at the clinic for a few days to remove all of the ticks and to stay for observation.

However, after three long days, the Golden Retriever looked and felt a million times better. The man who found the dog couldn’t have been happier and more relieved that he was able to find and rescue the sweet pup before his condition got any worse.

The man decided to take the dog home and welcome him into the family – they decided to name him Bran.

Bran had to be isolated from the other dog in the family’s household until he was all healed up, but as soon as the cone was off and his wounds were healed – the two Golden Retrievers were instant best friends.

Bran couldn’t be happier with his new life and it definitely shows with his happy family pictures.
