How would you react if you found a critter inside your food?
You’ll freak out for sure! It’s just like finding a bug or worm inside your fruit or a cockroach in your soup. Ew. It’s never a pleasant sight.
But this man from Tulsa, Oklahoma, did something unexpected.
I found the cutest little frog in the bottom of my romaine lettuce tonight- it’s too cold to set him outside (27 degrees), but he’s been living in the lettuce in the fridge for several days now- does anyone know what I should do so that he doesn’t die? pic.twitter.com/usaCIEWaLv

Simon Curtis bought a box of romaine lettuce from Whole Foods. He used the greens for his salad. A couple of days after he started consuming it, he saw a tiny tree frog at the bottom of his lettuce!
Of course, he freaked out!
But according to Simon, he didn’t scream out of shock or disgust. Instead, he was surprised to see the frog but found it too cute.
Simon then asked his Twitter followers what he should do with it?
He posted that it was freezing outside; it was 27 degrees. However, the frog’s been sitting in the box for a couple of days already and thought it needed some air or at least a natural habitat.
While searching for the best thing to do, Simon kept the frog and named him Tony.
He consulted some people on the best thing to do, especially since he didn’t want to cause Tony any harm. Meanwhile, while Simon was busy figuring out what to do, the little guy showed a lot of character with mischiefs on his own.
At times, Simon would find Tony missing from the box.
He would find the box missing and be frantic about where he went. Simon would find him anywhere! From the doorframe to the shower, it seemed like Tony had a knack for trouble and danger!
Simon bought a small terrarium for his little buddy for the next few days.
It has a few barks and leaves, something that Tony might enjoy living in. However, Simon still wasn’t so sure what to do. He said that there were warm days ahead, a perfect time for Tony to get used to the weather and enough time to adjust when he needed to hibernate.
Yet again, his followers voted for him to keep it as a pet.
And so, he did. His viral posts on Tony caught the attention of PetCo and offered Simon gift cards to provide Tony a better home. That’s when he got a bigger terrarium complete with rocks and foliage.
According to Simon, he has a deeper connection with Tony because he reminded him of his childhood.
It turned out Simon is a leukemia survivor. He was diagnosed with leukemia as a kid, and he had this stuffed tree frog with him all the time, comforting him.
“I found pictures of it yesterday, and it really made me emotional because I had this tree frog with me the entire time through that experience. And Tony himself just he feels like such a little survivor, that it was really beautiful, having a full-circle moment,” he said in an interview.
When I was 10, I was given a 50% chance of surviving leukemia. I just remembered that my favorite stuffed animal, my buddy I kept in the hospital bed with me the entire time, was a tree frog… pic.twitter.com/qQ3Mqfh4v4

Simon still went back and bought lettuce in Whole Foods, but this time, he made sure to check that the box didn’t have a tiny tree frog in it!
