Reddit user Sonsofbeards always claimed not to be a ‘cat guy.’ He didn’t have a problem with cats—they just weren’t for him.
But everything changed in 2015 when Sonsofbeards heard rummaging behind a dumpster. When he went to investigate, he found a tiny, skinny white kitten.
Sonsofbeards immediately took the little kitten to a vet. The vet dewormed her and put her on a high-calorie diet to get her up to a healthy weight. He also told Sonsofbeards that the little kitten was deaf.
“She does not react to any noise whatsoever. When she’s sleeping or awake. It’s pretty noticeable,” Sonsofbeards wrote on Reddit.
Sonsofbeards decided to adopt the little kitten, and he named her Sophie. Sonsofbeards gave Sophie plenty of food, and he carefully monitored her weight. As Sophie settled into his house, Sonsofbeards found himself becoming more and more of a cat person. He loved Sophie so much!
During his first few weeks with Sophie, Sonsofbeards turned for Reddit to get answers for all his cat questions.
One Reddit user, Reverserer, gave Sonsofbeards lots of tips about living with a deaf cat. He said:
“They can hear …in a sense….that is they feel vibrations exceptionally well. My cat was able to ‘feel’ the can opener and would come running at dinner time as soon as it started. So if you want to teach your cat tricks – use vibrations. I actually taught my cat to sit for treats with a 3 tap on the ground then push his butt down.”
Another Reddit user said that Sonsofbeards should be sure to check Sophie regularly for ear infections:
During his first year with Sophie, Sonsofbeards was converted into a cat lover. In 2016, he decided to get another cat. He named her Nimbus.
Nimbus and Sophie get along very well. They love sleeping together next to the TV. They’re also a big fan of napping in Sonsofbeards’ bed.
About a year after adopting Nimbus, another animal waltzed into Sonsofbeards’ life: a tiny puppy. Sonsofbeards found the puppy when she was just a few hours old and nursed her back to health. Clearly, all these animals sensed that Sonsofbeards was a kind-hearted man who would give them tons of love!
Nimbus, Sophie, and their puppy friend are all clearly well-loved by their owner. Sonsofbeards is now a true cat lover, and it’s easy to see why with cats as cute as Nimbus and Sophie! We’re so glad these cats have found such a great home.
