Puppy mills have to be one of the most inhumane ways to bring a puppy into the world.
These facilities are essentially commercial dog breeding farms that focus more on quantity over quality. Often, the dogs in their care are malnourished, neglected, and kept in tiny cages with as little food as possible to ensure the upkeeping fees are as low as possible.
Since puppy mills focus more on a dog’s appearance than their health, it’s common for them to repeatedly breed the runts of the litter in order to produce the tiniest dogs.
This can lead to health problems such as partially formed limbs or damaged internal organs.
Not only that but the moms in puppy mills are often treated cruelly. They’re used until they can no longer carry any litters, at which point they are deemed no longer useful and are often dumped.
Puppy mills are no joke, and thankfully, there are organizations out there who are working hard to get them shut down and rescue the poor animals from inside.
One of these organizations is The Humane Society of the United States.
The dedicated team of animal lovers work hard to find and shut down puppy mills across the US, and to raise awareness, they often share footage of what they find onto their YouTube channel.
In a video titled “B.B.’s Journey Out of Puppy Mill Darkness,” The Humane Society shows us what it’s like for poor dogs like BB who have spent the short years of their lives in a puppy mill.
The video is captioned:
“B.B. was one of nearly 130 animals rescued from a puppy mill in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. See her journey out of the darkness into a better life.”
It’s clear to see the extent of the neglect that the poor puppy has been through from the sorry state that she is in when the crew first arrives.
Thankfully, the team is here to change her life for the better.
In the video, BB is quickly taken out of the dark and dungy mill and into the sunlight – possibly for the first time ever! The little dog seems a little surprised by the light as her eyes take time to adjust- but you can already see how much happier she is looking.
Thankfully, BB quickly gets her happy ending, and she now lives with her loving owners and dog sibling. She’ll never have to experience a dark room or tiny kennel again in her life.
The video had an impact on people all over the world, and many took to the comments to share their hatred of puppy mills.

“Being bred over and over and over and over is very painful especially for little innocents like B.B. She was seriously abused and neglected. Never even been outside for Christ sake!! The people who help save animals from these horrid people who torture, abuse, and neglect animals are in my eyes ABSOLUTE ANGELS FROM UP ABOVE!! And someday they will all be rewarded for all the loving beings they helped save!! Every single one of these ANGELS have my deepest respect and in my heart, they are my heroes!”
