Meet Georgia, an Australian shepherd mix who was found by Anita Osa, a dog rescuer. She found the pup living near a gas station close to the U.S.-Mexico border near Arizona. Georgia looked restless when the woman caught sight of her, and with a longer look, Anita found out the reason why.

The dog was pregnant and she was obviously in need of medical help. Anita immediately brought her to the Sunshine Dog Clinic, a rescue center that she founded, where the mama dog soon delivered her babies. Sadly, her pups were all premature and ended up dying.

The entire litter did not survive

It was a tragic moment and poor Georgia was left with no puppy to care for.

“I’ve never had a mom dog lose a whole litter before,” she told ABC 15. “The best way I could describe it was she was frantic. It was so sad, she was looking for those babies. She tore up the toddler mattress we had her on, trying to find her babies.”

It was something that Anita had never experienced before and she did not know what to do for the grieving mama dog, so she posted on social media and asked for help.

She asked if people knew puppies looking for a lactating mother. Unfortunately, there were no puppies around for Georgia to nurse but then, someone mentioned kittens and it gave Anita an idea on how to give Georgia the babies she was longing for.

The dog rescuer got connected to someone with three kittens who were orphaned.

Anita was unsure if Georgia would welcome the kittens, let alone nurse them. But she was in for a surprise.

“I introduced them to her gently. I first brought one out and let her sniff it, and she seemed to accept it, so I brought the others out,” she said. “It’s amazing to see how she instantly calmed down.”

Seeing Georgia warm up to the kittens lifted Anita’s spirit, and she saw that Georgia finally started to get better, too. While Anita admits that she’s not really a cat person, watching the little kitties give joy and healing to the mama dog gave her a new view on cats. For her, there was a simple explanation of why they connected instantly with Georgia.

“I think for the kittens, they have no idea that Georgia is a dog,” the dog rescuer shared.

This amazing story went viral on social media and every dog and cat lover who saw it online must have been moved by the incredible tale of love and healing. It was shared multiple times by people online, including celebrities, and was even featured in the news in other states. Georgia’s newfound happiness in these kitties touched the hearts of many.

Anita Osa did the right thing and it was something that gave Georgia and the kittens another reason to live and love.
