This sweet cat loves her baby so much, all she wants to do is hug her.

In February 2018, a pair of neglected Calico cat siblings were surrendered to a shelter in Las Vegas. Soon after they arrived, the shelter workers discovered that the female cat was pregnant.

A week later, the cat gave birth. She had two kittens, but sadly only one survived. The shelter named the mama cat Harmony, her baby Haven, and her brother Oliver.

The shelter knew the cats needed a warm and loving home where Harmony could look after her baby. And so, the rescue group Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions took the three cats in and placed them with one of their experienced fosterers, Ellen Richter.

Richter immediately began working with Harmony, who wasn’t sure how to care for her baby.

The sweet cat clearly loved Haven—she spent all her time hugging the kitten, and she would never let her out of her sight. But Harmony didn’t know how to nurse Haven, so Richter taught her. Richter also bottle-fed the baby to make sure she was getting the nutrients she needed to grow big and strong.

Harmony was so focused on her baby, she neglected her own needs. She wouldn’t go to her food bowl to eat, and she wouldn’t use the litter box. So, Richter brought food to Harmony.

Thanks to all the love and care she was getting, Haven grew very quickly:

“In the last few days, baby Haven started crawling. Harmony felt comfortable enough to be about a foot away, no more. I still have to bring the plate to her, but each day she grows more confident, leaving Haven’s side,” Richter told Love Meow.

Even though Harmony is getting a bit more comfortable letting Haven play on her own, she still spends most of her time cuddling with her daughter. Now that she’s a bit bigger, Haven looks like her mom’s mini-me!

Harmony’s brother Oliver will soon be up for adoption, and once Haven is big enough, she and Harmony will also be available for adoption. Hopefully, this sweet mother and daughter pair will find a great forever home together!
