When we hear the term “mama bear,” we quickly relate it to fierce and protective.

But in real life, mother bears are so much more than fangs and claws.

A mama bear who was lost in a neighborhood proves that just like any maternal figure, they are gentle and indiscriminate with their love.

A video went viral when a motorist filmed a daring bear escape.

A small family of bears found trouble when their route was blocked off by a five-foot fence. The mother bear, with her sheer size and strength, didn’t have problems going over to the other side.

It was a different story for her two cubs. The fence was around twice their height standing up. The sanded wood also provided little to latch their claws onto.

Still, the adorable cubs were undeterred.

They may be cubs, but they are bear cubs. They both lunged and jumped to the highest point they can. They tried to claw their way up but it always ends the same.

They both helplessly slide down to the bottom of the fence.

Sensing their difficulties, the mother bear climbed on the top of the barrier.

Then, she bit on the nape of the cub that made it nearer to the top and pulled it to safety. However, one more cub was left on the other side, and it was not looking well for him.

It is said that mother bears leave the “weakest link” behind.

The remaining cub mustered the last of its strength to climb the stone pillar. But the obstacles are too high and he is too small to make significant progress. He doesn’t even know if his family is still waiting for him on the other side.

In a moment of panic, the cub ran away from the fence and onto the road. Maybe it was trying to find another way to reunite with his family.

He was alone and it will be difficult for him to survive on his own.

Then, something amazing happens.

A big blob of brown fur barreled toward the cub in the middle of the road. It was his mom and she came back for him!

She coaxed the young bear to go back to the fence and not to run in the opposite direction. The little cub was nervous and probably defeated after repeatedly trying and failing.

They gave the fence a go once more.

The mother bear jumps over to show it’s done. Then, she stays on the top of the fence to make sure that her cub follows her up.

The cub gave it a go.

This time, with the sight of his mother on the top and a good latch on the fence, the young cub was determined to reach the top.

When he was within range, his mother then gently bit on his nape and pulled him to the other side of the fence. It is a brief moment but it is more than enough to show us how close animal families are and what being a mama bear truly means.
