There’s a common myth that mailmen don’t get on well with many animals – especially dogs. And while it may be true that some dogs do have a thing against their local mailman, this is certainly not the case for all of our canine friends.
We hold the belief that if you’re an animal-lover, the animal will be able to sense this, and they will be drawn to you like you’re the new patron saint of animals. So when a Brazilian animal fanatic became a mailman, he was determined to break the stigma around not just mailmen and dogs, but mailmen and all animals.
The mailman goes by the name of Carteiro Amigo Dos Animais on his Instagram account, which roughly translates to “Animal-friendly postman.” Whenever the animal lover does his rounds in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Cristiano da Silva Antunes, he always makes sure to give each and every animal that special bit of attention and care, including cats, dogs, rabbits, and any other animal that he comes across.
Not only does the Animal Friendly Postman give animals that he comes across pets and loves, but he also goes out of his way to help those who are greatly in need. In Brazil, it’s pretty common to find animals who are homeless and living on the streets, and this kind man does his best to make sure that any vulnerable animal is taken to a safe place.
If an animal needs urgent veterinary attention, or a safe place to sleep, the heroic mailman is on hand to make sure that these animals get the help that they deserve.

He dreams of one day opening up his own shelter to provide a home for all of the animals that he comes across while making his rounds.
Cristiano the mailman takes his time to befriend even the timidest of animals. The first step is to make himself known to the animals, so he patiently waits until they become more comfortable with his presence before gradually inching forward until he is able to pet them.
It comes as no surprise that the mailman, who has 93k followers on Instagram, owns a couple of dogs of his own and three cats with his spouse, and the animal-lover has apparently grown up being surrounded by pets.
He delivers a message with every photo he shares: “(this) mailman is a dog’s best friend.” And after hearing all about what an amazing advocate for animals he is, we have to agree.
