Dogs are a man’s bestfriend. They are extremely loyal and loving animals that we often consider as family. Some dogs are extremely loyal to the point that their loyalty continues even when their human friend is no longer alive.
This is what happened to a 3-year-old Lab mix in New Jersey.
Losing a loved one is extremely difficult. You will no longer see them laughing at your quirks or hearing their words of encouragement. It’s the same way with animals. Losing their owners is heartbreaking and daunting.
Moose, a 3-year-old Lab mix, was a happy and carefree dog. He loves his owner and extremely loyal to him. However, tragedy struck.
His owner sadly succumbed to cancer and died in the hospital which makes him an orphaned pup.
Moose patiently waited by his owner’s hospital bed, hoping and waiting for him to come back. Sadly, it was never to be.

Eleventh Hour Rescue, the shelter where he was adopted from a year ago, took Moose back in.
“Eleventh Hour Rescue’s adoption policy is that if an adopter cannot keep one of our dogs for any reason, the dog must come back to us, and so Moose did just that. No matter how crowded we are, we always make room for one of our own,” a spokesperson for the shelter said.
Moose’s adoption
According to Eleventh Hour Rescue, they found Moose tied to a railroad sign in Georgia back in 2017. He stayed at a nearby shelter for several months until he was transferred to Eleventh Hour. Eventually, he was adopted by his recently deceased owner.
A photo of Moose waiting for his owner was taken by one of the hospital staff and the heartbreaking photo went viral.
Saddened by the news and story of Moose, one of the staff took a photo of him and shared it on social media. His heartbreaking story touched so many people that it went viral.
“Moose sat patiently next to his dad’s hospital bed, waiting for him to return, not knowing that ‘Dad’ had passed away,” the rescue wrote on Facebook. “Moose has now been returned to our friends at Eleventh Hour Rescue and he’s taking the loss of his dad pretty hard.”
North Star Pet Rescue and Eleventh Hour Rescue also shared his story in the hopes that a new family will take him in.
“If you can help Moose’s heart heal by offering him a temporary foster home or a permanent home, please go to ehrdogs.org and put in an application to meet this sweet, loving boy. Let’s mend this broken heart, together,” NorthStar Pet Rescue wrote in the post.
Thanks to the Internet, Moose’s story went viral. Who could resist this loyal dog?
“Thanks to the power of social media, Moose has received several applications & we are hopeful he will find a forever home soon!” the rescue wrote in an update.
Not long after the post went viral, we received the best news about Moose! On June 22, 2019, Eleventh Hour Rescue announced that Moose has finally found a new home.

“They were one of the first applications we received on Moose. They saw the post before it went viral,” said Linda Barish, a volunteer and a member of the executive committee at Eleventh Hour.
Thank you so much to this family for taking in Moose. He looks extremely happy with his new family. May he be able to heal from his broken heart and learn to have fun again with the company of his new parents.
