Lovebug, whose name matches her personality, was not always able to be herself. In her previous home, she was owned by a woman who was plagued with mental illness, and, as a result, Lovebug was locked in a dog crate for most of her life.

Thankfully, Lovebug was lucky enough to get a second chance. She was finally able to let her affectionate, cuddly personality out of the cage— quite literally!

Unlike dogs, cats get extremely stressed when confined in a cage. Cats are not meant to be confined, as it interferes with many of their natural behaviors, such as hiding when feeling vulnerable or threatened. Lack of attention and being unable to satisfy natural urges is tough on a cat and can negatively affect them in a serious way.

Researchers Judith L. Stella and Candace C. Croney confirm, that cats confined in cages can experience symptoms such as “decreased appetite, withdrawal from social groupings, increases in urinary cortisol, decreases in grooming, and increases in the frequency and intensity of attempts to hide.”

Lovebug was saved from her caged life by Furry Nation Salvation and placed with a foster parent named Patty. Due to her rough and unfair upbringing, Lovebug had a terrible skin infection with patches of missing fur. Thankfully, she has healed since being liberated from her confines, and fur has grown over her old wounds.

In a YouTube Video, the rescue explains, “Before her rescue, [Lovebug] was owned by a mentally ill woman who kept her confined to a dog crate for most, if not all of her life. Now in foster care with Patty, [Lovebug] is safe.”

Lovebug is a special kitty. She defied all odds and never held a grudge against humans for her previous circumstances. Instead, she embraced her newfound freedom with a payment of cuddles and kisses. She was assumed to be between three and five years old, so it’s tough to say just how long she suffered without the love and affection she clearly craved.

Although Lovebug loves her human, she still snuggles up to a dog at bedtime. This kitty truly has no bounds for love! A part of her precious life may have been wasted locked up in a cage, but she is definitely compensating for all the lost snuggles now!

If you met Lovebug after her rescue, you’d never guess she once lived a horrid life. Cats are wonderful, forgiving animals, constantly surprising us with their ability to move on from less-than-ideal situations.
