A family in Brazil was devastated when their beloved dog Neguinho went missing. They searched and searched for him, but he didn’t turn up.
The family could have never guessed where Neguinho was: in a crevasse on the side of a cliff.
Neguinho and his family live in Vale do Itajaí, a region in southern Brazil that’s filled with mountains. One day, Neguinho accidentally wandered away from home and got lost in the mountainous region. Somehow, he got stuck in a crevasse on the cliff’s face, just 150 feet from the edge of the cliff. He was afraid to move, and so he clung onto the cliff for six days, hoping someone would come for him.
Meanwhile, Neguinho’s family contacted their local fire department, the Corpo de Bombeiros Militar de Ituporanga. They began searching for the lost dog.
On their first day searching, they had no luck. But thankfully, on the second day, one of the firefighters spotted the dog. The firefighters immediately began preparing to rescue him.
The firefighters took video of the incredible rescue.
The video shows one of the firefighters risking their life by rappelling down the cliff. When he reached the area where the dog was trapped, he spoke to the pup in a reassuring voice. Then, he carefully pulled the dog out of the crevasse and carried him up to the top of the cliff. Just like that, the dog was safe!
The fire department also described the daring rescue on their Facebook page:
“Today we carried out a rescue of a dog that had fallen into a ravine for 6 days and was 50 meters from the point of descent. The dog was weak. The location was difficult to access and it took a trail of approximately 2 kilometers. But in the end it was only joy. Another mission successfully completed!”
Once the dog was safely on solid ground, the firefighters gave him some food and water. The dehydrated and hungry dog gratefully ate everything. Then, the firefighters brought Neguinho back to his family. They were so happy to see him, and he was happy to see them too!
Neguinho was in a very scary situation, but thankfully a group of brave firefighters was there to save him. Thanks to these courageous firefighters, Neguinho is now happily back with his loved ones!
