People who own dogs will do everything they can to ensure their happiness and health. For most individuals, their pups are just another member of the family. They provide unconditional love, support, protection, and of course, lots of cuddles.
But what happens when a dog goes missing? Unfortunately, it’s a story heard too often. Usually, these animals come home on their own but sometimes, they don’t. Even when they’re gone for an extended amount of time, their owners keep searching and hoping they’ll find their lost pooch.
On deployment
While serving the country overseas, Manuel Vejar found a gorgeous Husky that he wanted to adopt. He’d considered other dogs but this one stuck out for some reason. So, he was excited to return home and bring this pup into his family’s life.
Military responsibilities
For people in the military, deployment is inevitable. Although men and women prepare for deployment, it’s different once it happens. While away from family and friends, a lot of people experience a sense of loneliness and isolation. Mentally, it’s tough.
Something to look forward to
So, for Manuel, knowing he’d have a new furry friend when he got home helped him through some difficult times. Finally, the day arrived. He picked up his Husky and was ready for a new beginning.
An immediate connection
As soon as he met his new dog, they connected. It was as though this pooch knew he was with his forever human dad. They were both over the moon, excited for this next chapter.
But things didn’t go as planned
His new Husky was stunning. What was supposed to be an exciting adventure quickly took a dark turn. Just six months later, Champ, his new pup, along with his other dog, were playing in the backyard. But for whatever reason, the Husky took off.
Searching everywhere
For two months, Manuel searched high and low. He even posted virtual fliers on social media in the hope that someone had spotted Champ. While he received a few possible leads, they were all dead ends. Eventually, people stopped commenting, leaving Manuel wondering what happened to his dog.
A big surprise
Champ went missing in 2013 but then on July 10, 2020, something extraordinary happened. Out of the blue, he received a knock on his door. Standing there was an animal control officer telling Manuel that Champ had been located. After seven years…was is possible?
Safe but injured
Come to find out, a local farmer saw the dog on his property. But that man noticed the Husky was limping. So, he took him to a nearby veterinarian clinic to be checked out. It was during that visit the vet checked him for a microchip. That’s what led them to Manuel.
Champ is home
Today, this gorgeous dog is back where he belongs, with Manuel and the rest of the family. Although no one has any idea what Champ had endured over those seven years, his owner never gave up.
Manuel’s message to other pet owners
Manuel wants other people in his position to stay hopeful. Especially with social media, there’s now a better chance of animals being reunited with their owners. Champ can now rest and heal.
