Having a pet go missing is one of the worst things we can endure.

Not only do we miss having our furry friends around, but not knowing what happened or where they are is the absolute worst.

Two long years had passed since Dwight had last seen his dog Payday until he saw him on the morning news.

According to The Dodo, Payday went missing when he got loose during a night walk near their Wisconsin home.

The family was totally devastated.

Especially Dwight’s then 10-year-old daughter. Dwight had adopted Payday as a gift for her.

Payday was brought into the Wisconsin Humane Society two years after he went missing.

A woman surrendered the small 4-year-old dog, who has an unmistakable underbite, after having found him as a stray.

She invited him into her home but brought him to the shelter since he wasn’t comfortable with his new surroundings.

Though Payday was chock full o’energy, he was very fearful of new faces and situations.

“He’s a pretty feisty dog,” Vice President of Communications at the Wisconsin Humane Society Angela Speed told The Dodo. “He’s a little dog with a big personality.”

But the Humane Society ended up having trouble trying to find a home for Payday.

So, they asked the local news station if they could help out and publicize the fact that Payday needed a home with a special family that could positively harness all that energy.

And they did. And that family turned out to be Payday’s original family.

Dwight woke up to the station’s morning broadcast which featured Payday.

“Dwight normally turns off his TV every night, but must have left it on by accident – or perhaps thanks to fate,” the Humane Society’s Facebook page explained. “It only took one glance at the picture for Dwight to immediately recognize Payday, his long-lost pup who had gone missing nearly two years ago!”

Dwight’s mother Melissa ended up going to the shelter, which was just a few miles from their house, to pick up Payday.

She and Payday’s reunion was caught on video.

You can visibly see Payday change when he sees his long-lost family member and starts jumping uncontrollably for joy.

“You could tell he immediately recognized her, and it was such a joyous reunion. It was magical,” Speed said. “Most people know animal shelters as places where you adopt animals, but reuniting lost animals with their families is a core part of our work. Every time we’re able to reunite an animal with their family, it’s a memorable occasion … It was a privilege to witness it.”

After two long years, Payday finally went home to the ones who loved him very much.

“They’re back to their old routine. Payday gets up first in the morning — he does not like to go out at night — and he wakes everyone up,” Speed said. “He has two pittie dog siblings and they’re delighted to have him back, too. They were playing right away.”
