When the Malone family adopted their second rescue dog in 2017, their daughter Katie fell in love with him immediately.

Sleepy puppy
Puppies are rambunctious little creatures, but they often don’t know how to gauge their energy levels well, so sometimes they just conk out.
Baby Oakley fell asleep right in Katie’s arms, setting up the perfect opportunity for a sweet video of the pair.
You see, Katie is well-versed in the art of the lullaby and decided to sing some in order to welcome her new bestie to his forever home.
The video of the pair has now gone wildly viral and has been published across multiple platforms simply for being so darn wholesome.
Now with new lyrics
“Lullaby, sweetie pie, I love you so-ooo much,” the little girl sings.
Meanwhile, the puppy is fast asleep – we just hope he’s still able to soak up some of this love.
The sweetest moment comes as she rubs the puppy’s back, looks at him lovingly, and says “You’re a little petunia.”
Heart, melted.
Joining the family
Little Katie is already knowledgeable about how best to play with dogs since her Labrador/Basset hound mix Mae had been with the family for years.

After Katie asks her mom if it was, indeed, a great lullaby, she’s asked if she wants to sing another. After all, the dog looks pretty relaxed and we all know that as soon as he wakes up he’s not going to be interested in singing.
Katie sings some original lyrics to the tune of Brahms’ famous lullaby.

Mom compliments her on her “beautiful” song while the song moans in its sleep. He might just be trying to sing along but too tired to do so!
“He likes it, keep singing,” mom says in the background as the puppy snuggles further beneath her chin.
The original video on Malone’s Facebook page elicited an overwhelming 54k+ comments, most of which were heart emojis or other sweet gifs. But plenty of people complimented Katie’s singing as well as her sweetness.
Malone also took the opportunity to remind people that adopting a rescue dog is the way to go.
“And THIS is why you should adopt a rescue dog. Or two. Or three or four. We adopted Oakley this week from our favorite rescue Americanlabrescue.com,” she captioned the video.

BFFs
While Mae and Oakley’s Instagram page hasn’t been updated in a while, Malone posted a video of Katie and Oakley this summer that makes it pretty clear that all that puppy bonding paid off.
As the two snuggled on the couch, Oakley lets the little girl cuddle up right to his face.
They’re two peas in a pod!
Doing good
In addition to being adorable, the sweet video helped raise money as well.
Malone linked a fundraiser for American Lab Rescue Inc to the video – and 195 people donated a total of $4,385!
