Our pets are not just animals we live with. They are our family.
Kids, most especially, are known to have strong bonds with the animals they care for.
This has been proven true in one particular occasion where a 10-year-old girl was reunited with her cat after being separated in Ukraine.
Agnessa Bezhenar and her family were among the people who decided to flee Odesa in February when the Russian forces started taking over Ukraine.
They did not waste any time and they were left with no choice but to leave their cat, Arsenii, behind because the family couldn’t bring an animal on their trip.
From Ukraine, the family was able to move to the Bay Area.
The family arrived in a refugee camp in Romania and was eventually brought to the Bay Area after a man offered his home to them thru a refugee program that connected him to the Bezhenar family.
All of them were in a safe place, but little Agnessa was worried about her furry friend who was left back home in Odesa.
The family is truly thankful for all the blessings they have received throughout this challenging time.
However, after settling in their new place, German stewardess Dee Harnish found out that Agnessa’s cat was left behind.
The 10-year-old missed her cat terribly.
Mrs. Maria Bezhenar told Ms. Harnish just how much young Agnessa missed Arsenii, her cat.
“She missed sleeping with her cat and she missed hugging him, she missed everything about the cat because she had grown up with him,” she said.
After hearing this, the German stewardess decided to act on it and help the young girl be reunited with her beloved cat and friend.
She phoned another flight attendant named Viola. This woman is known for her animal rescue activities.
Viola who lives in Hawaii contacted another animal rescuer from Houston named Angelica. The latter prepared the details of the rescue with the help of Agnessa’s family.
Maria called her brother-in-law who was taking care of Arsenii.
He made sure the cat was travel-ready.
Arsenii was vaccinated, microchipped, and brought across the border to Moldova on a motorcycle driven by Maria’s brother-in-law. He also got the cat a passport.
After reaching Moldova, another man took Arsenii and drove him to Bucharest.
In there, another refugee family took the cat in.
A woman named Mimi Kate who was on a vacation in Greece decided to cut her vacation short to pick Arsenii up from Romania.
All of the cat’s documents and papers had to be checked and verified in Romania because the animal will be coming from a non-EU country.
A tuk-tuk driver also helped out and drove Arsenii and Kate from Bucharest so they can make it to their flight in Athens.
The Arsenii’s adventure has taken 7,000 miles.
Thru the kindness of strangers, the cat finally reached Agnessa in Seattle.
This inspiring example of true kindness and genuine concern for not only another person but also a cat is one that absolutely warmed the hearts of many people online.
