There are all kinds of beautiful animals in the wild. But the fox is perhaps one of the cutest. With a sweet face, pointy little nose and ears, and a big bushy tail, they’re beautiful. This amazing creature is also more nocturnal than diurnal. That means they hunt for food at night and sleep during the day.

For that reason, a lot of people don’t get the chance to see them during daytime hours. If you happen to spot one, it’ll probably turn and run. That’s why when one person saw a little fox sleeping in broad daylight on a tree stump, they knew they were witnessing something special.

They come in different colors

Another interesting fact about the fox is that this animal comes in a variety of colors. Included are brown, tan, red, black, and even white. In this case, the fox was a gorgeous red color. A man named Ryan Flynn first saw the fox. He then told his daughter Sara about it. She said he was super excited.

Coping with the Covid-19 pandemic

Like millions of other people, the Flynn’s are practicing social distancing during this difficult time. Normally, they’re at work and out and about. As non-pet owners, being at home has given them an opportunity to see things they don’t typically see. In this case, a red fox sleeping on a tree stump in their yard.

But there he was in all his glory

The stump was left from the prior year. That’s when the city cut down a dead tree, leaving it behind. Sara’s dad first noticed the fox on a Tuesday. Since this isn’t a sight people see very often, he’s been generous enough to provide frequent updates online. This is something special he can share with everyone.

Don’t wake up

Wanting to get a closer look, Ryan decided to step outside. Although he was very quiet, somehow, the fox heard him. As he explained, “The fox looked up and then went right back to sleep.” These animals aren’t necessarily afraid of humans but instinctively, they’ll run if seeing or hearing one. The fact this little guy didn’t budge was even more exciting.

They don’t live in the country

If you’re lucky enough to see a fox, it’ll probably be somewhere in the country. But the Flynn’s live in a metropolitan area. Again, that made the encounter all the more unique. The little guy appeared to be perfectly healthy…just tired. Sara has a theory as to why he chose to sleep on the stump.

It’s safe and warm

Sara stated, “The tree is protected by the garage behind it so it only faces my parent’s yard. I imagine that it’s a warm and safe place to nap.” That sounds logical to us. Now the question was how long would the fox stick around. That same evening, Ryan peeked outside to discover he was gone. It was nice while it lasted.

He’s back…

Come to find out, the fox had no intention of leaving his newly found spot. Remember, they’re mostly nocturnal. So more than likely, he’d simply gone out looking for something to eat. But what makes this story so amazing, this little guy came back the next day. Yep, he climbed right back on the stump for another siesta.

There’s no telling how long this little fellow will stay. But for now, he’s lifted a lot of spirits. Ryan sums up the experience by saying, “I love that people are loving the fox! It makes sense that people want a little slice of joy in the midst of a lot of stress and anxiety and chaos. I’m glad that my one viral tweet was a cute tweet during a not very cute time.”

Well said, Ryan. We couldn’t agree with you more.
