If you were lucky enough to have a pet as a child, you’ll know just how much of a best friend they become. When mom is too busy for you or dad shouts at you, you can be certain that your furry buddy is on hand to accept your cuddles and take your mind off things by being their usual lovable self.

One little boy proved just how much he loved his own furry friend, a 2-year-old boxer named Brutus, when family video footage showed him sneaking out of bed to sleep with him on the floor.

In the video, little Finn Knudston can be seen carefully clambering out of bed and dragging his sheets down onto Brutus’ floor bed. Brutus lifts his head as Finn sits down beside him, but something about the way that he casually returns his head to the floor suggests that this is a fairly regular occurrence.

After getting himself sorted with his sheet, Finn, with his dummy in his mouth and carrying the bottle his mom must have put him “to sleep” with, decides his position isn’t quite right.

He toddles around Brutus and squeezes onto the dog bed right in front of him.

Brutus doesn’t seem bothered by this invasion of personal space, not even when Finn lies back against his body and starts wriggling about, trying to get comfy. He drinks from his bottle, still leaning back on Brutus, then pops his dummy back in.

For several more minutes, Finn climbs all over Brutus with the standard restlessness of a toddler. Brutus is completely chilled out, and, bless, even attempts to carry on sleeping while Finn adjusts his sleeping position about a thousand times.

It’s clear there’s a lot of love between the pair. Finn obviously just can’t get comfy on the dog bed, but he’s willing to take the discomfort if it means he gets to be close to his best pal. Brutus looks like he’s ready for a good, long kip, but he’s more than happy to let Finn disturb his sleep for the time being.

Speaking to The Dodo about the video footage, Finn’s mom Paige said that Brutus was “just a big teddy bear”, and he loves attention and snuggles.

As a baby, Finn had undergone multiple procedures after he had been born to correct a heart defect. Remembering back to the moment that she brought baby Finn home to meet Brutus, Paige recalled:

“Once we got home, it was as if Brutus just knew Finn needed some extra close monitoring, and he has been by his side ever since.”

According to Paige, it’s unsurprising that the two don’t like to sleep separately at night, as they do everything together in the daytime. She said:

“Brutus often curls up wherever Finn is sitting and follows him from room to room in our house. If Finn is sick, Brutus knows it and just stays right by Finn’s side or lays his head on Finn’s chest.”

Apparently, when Finn was a baby, Brutus would sleep on a rug next to his crib. As Finn grew big enough for a bed, Brutus would often climb up into it and the pair would snuggle up together. Eventually, Paige moved Brutus’ bed into Finn’s room, and Finn started climbing out of bed and sleeping with Brutus on the floor.

Finn and Brutus clearly have an unbreakable family bond. You can check out the adorable video of the pair cuddling up in Brutus’ bed just below.
