A video captures a hilarious yet heart-tugging scene where a koala, in a bid to defend his territory, pushes another off a tree.
The younger koala’s reaction is reminiscent of a toddler’s tantrum, complete with loud cries and evident frustration. Thankfully, the tussle didn’t result in any serious injuries.
The video starts with a smaller koala, tears in its eyes, attempting to climb a eucalyptus tree.
Hot on its trail is another, larger koala.
Given that koalas can consume over a pound of leaves daily, it’s likely the younger one was just seeking a snack and some rest. However, what unfolds is akin to a classic sibling rivalry.
The younger koala’s plaintive cries don’t deter the adult, who seems determined to have the tree to himself.
The larger koala pushes the younger one onto its back, even nipping him as if to emphasize his dominance.
Yet, the young koala is not one to give up easily. After a brief moment of sulking at the tree’s base, it makes another valiant attempt to ascend.
However, the bigger koala is quick to chase, and the little one finds himself tumbling down once more.
Undeterred, the brave youngster tries again, climbing higher this time.
But just as victory seems within reach, the larger koala intervenes, leading to louder cries from the younger one.
After being yanked from the tree and falling to the ground, its cries intensify, tugging at the heartstrings.
The dynamic between the two koalas is reminiscent of sibling squabbles.
Once the dominant koala ensures the younger one is off the tree, it descends to seemingly reinforce its point.
The younger koala’s only response is a heart-wrenching cry.

“As someone who grew up with an older sister who always kicked me out of our shared bedroom…I can relate to this poor koala,” one commenter wrote.

“Move over toddlers, this is how you tantrum! This little Koala never gives up and persistence paid off – it won the tree by nightfall!
I felt so sorry for this poor bubba, it was heart breaking to watch and so very hard to not to go comfort it, but I don’t interfere with wild animals and will call koala rescue / 1300koalaz for advice (as I did for this situation).”
