Meet Francis: a tiny kitten with a big personality!
When rescuers found Francis, he was three weeks old but only weighed four ounces and was smaller than a teaspoon. Rescuers were worried that Francis was too frail to make it, but the little kitten was determined to survive.
Rescuers brought Francis to NOVA Cat Clinic for treatment. There, they learned he had a heart murmur and a potential hormone deficiency.
After treating Francis, the clinic started looking for foster homes for the little kitten. The clinic knew that Francis would need a special foster home with a foster parent who would give Francis the care he needed. And so, they contacted Ellen Carozza.
Ellen is a licensed veterinary technician, and she has fostered countless cats over the years. As soon as she saw Francis, her heart melted. She knew she wanted to give this cat the home he needed.
Francis quickly settled into Ellen’s home. The cute kitten was very vocal, and he loved cuddling with his new foster mom.
Since Francis was so small, Ellen worried about him constantly during his first few weeks at her house.
“You know, just get up with you every single hour to make sure you’re still alive,” Ellen said. “That was the first week, is I would roll over every hour and be like, ‘He’s still breathing, thank God.’”
As Francis got older, he got stronger and stronger. The kitten stayed small, but he didn’t seem as frail anymore. Ellen was able to breathe a bit easier—it was clear Francis was going to be okay!
Francis got up to lots of mischief at Ellen’s house. The cute cat loved exploring all the nooks and crannies of the house.
Ellen doesn’t think Francis ever saw himself as ‘small.’
“I don’t think he ever saw himself as small. He saw himself as a cat and you’re gonna eat that and I’m gonna eat it too,” Ellen said.
Francis also had a big independent streak. Once he mastered the stairs in Ellen’s house, he refused to let her carry him up them. He always had to go up them himself!
When Francis was a few months old, Ellen decided it was time to start looking for his forever home. She knew she would miss him terribly when he left, but she wanted him to have the best life possible.
Ellen soon found the right parents for Francis: a kindhearted couple who she was sure would give Francis the love he deserved. Ellen performed an adoption ceremony for the couple, and then she said goodbye to Francis.
Francis is a small, determined cat who won’t let anything stop from doing what he wants! If you want to learn more about Francis, check out the video below.
