You often hear about cats getting stuck in trees— but ventilation pipes? That’s a little rarer. In a video uploaded to the internet on April 29th, 2017, you see a man from Bulgaria rescuing a kitten from a 2-meter long ventilation pipe. The newly freed kitten than thanks him in a truly adorable fashion.
When the 50-second clip begins, you see the kitten at the bottom of the deep pipe. She’s completely stuck with no way to climb up. Her little eyes glow with fear.
In the video’s description, the Bulgarian man explains that he had been hearing random noises, and he followed them until he found the baby cat. It’s unclear if the kitten fell or if someone put her there, but without the man’s help, she would have surely died.
“I found a long and suitable piece of material that a cat can hold on to and lowered it into the pipe,” the man explained. “I used the phone’s flashlight to help me see what I am doing and it just occurred to me that I can shoot a video of it all.”
The terrified kitten sees the strap the man has lowered and immediately tries to latch herself onto it. Her nails claw into the thick fabric as the man slowly begins to pull her up.
It’s a tight squeeze for the little kitty, but she holds on to the strap for dear life. Her eyes are filled with fear and hope as she wonders if she will finally be free.
Soon, she’s pretty much there.
And as the kitty’s head emerges from the pipe and the camera pans out, you see a little kitty companion has been waiting worriedly.
They kitties stare at each other in disbelief, trying to process the fact that the trapped friend is now safe.
It’s amazing to see a rescue like this on video— especially when the kitten could have died without anyone’s help. She’s completely overjoyed to be saved by the man, and (in the cutest part of the entire video), she decides to tell him so herself.
After making sure each other is okay, the kittens make their way to the man, who is kneeling on the grass. They immediately start jumping over themselves and climbing on top of his knees while letting out streams of grateful meows. These kittens are truly thankful that someone cared enough to save one of their lives.
