The incident, which was caught on tape, shows a woman named Laney approaching a busy intersection on her motorcycle. The light is red, and the woman stops, but then she notices something odd.

“I didn’t notice it was him [the kitten] until another truck driver drove by very, very close to him, and he scurried the other way,” Laney told Inside Edition.

“That’s when I noticed a leaf doesn’t move like that.”

As soon as Laney notices the kitten, you see her frantically motion to oncoming drivers to stop. When the other drivers don’t notice her, the brave woman leaps off her bike and rushes to save the kitten herself.

When she scoops up the baby, she rushes him to the sidewalk, where a passerby holds him as she goes back to get her bike. She then circles back around to see if the kitten is okay.

In an interview with ABC News, Laney says, “I literally cannot watch the video anymore because how many times he escaped death just kills me.”

“I’m just so thank that the woman in the video, who I later learned was named Dana, was there, and she looked like she was about to run and get him too.”

After saving the kitten, Laney called her boyfriend to pick them both up. She immediately brought the baby to a vet who told her he was in good health and appeared to be about 4-weeks old.

Laney and her husband adopted the street-running kitty and named him ‘Skidmark’ in honor of the fate he so luckily escaped.

“It’s a little bit of dark humor, but we thought it was appropriate considering that’s exactly what he could’ve been,” she said.

Here’s the street-running kitty one year after his rescue, in a video update by Laney.

No one knows how Skidmark managed to get on the road. They think he may have been sleeping in the engine of a car and jumped out. In the end, it doesn’t matter though, because he is happy, healthy, and has a brand-new loving home with Laney, the woman who so bravely rescued him.
