When you think of cats and kittens, the topic of water doesn’t often come up. I mean, everyone knows cats hate water… right?
WRONG. (At least according to this mini kitty!)
In this adorable video, a tiny white kitten tells her owner exactly what she thinks about the water in a truly adorable way. I know not all meows mean the same thing— but it’s pretty obvious that these kitty’s bath meows are definitely meows of joy!
At the beginning of the video, human-mom holds the kitten in front of the camera, and you see the kitten’s bath (A.K.A the bathroom sink) being filled in the background. At first, when the kitten is placed into the sinkful of water, she meows a bit in protest…
But when the stream of water hits her belly, she finally starts to relax.
Before you know it, the bath is over— and when all is said and done, I give the kitten’s reaction to everything a P for puuuuurfect.
While cats usually do a pretty good job of grooming themselves, baby kittens can require some help— especially if they get messy while eating wet food or using the litter box. For most cats, getting drenched is an unpleasant experience. Their fur gets water-logged and they can feel cold or uncomfortable. For others, like this kitty, it’s nothing but good times. In fact, domestic cats in hot, dry climates are reported to often play and sit in water because it helps them cool down. Like the following cat, for instance, who is taking a refreshing little swim.
Dr. Carlo Siracusa, clinical assistant professor of behavioral medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, says the relationship between cats and water is complicated. “The majority of [cats] like to interact with water,” he told PetMD. “However, if you take a cat that didn’t have any contact with water and sop the cat in water, he will probably have a fear reaction.”
That’s why, for the most part, it’s best to start bathing your cat as early as possible; it gives them the chance to adjust and get used to being wet. With a little bit of practice and dedication, your cat will be enjoying the water in no time.
