Cats are strong-willed animals who will always fight for what they want in life.

That’s just what happened with a little stray kitten in California. This kitten decided that he was ready for a home of his own. And so, he walked into the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and refused to leave!

For two days, the little kitten loitered around the office, getting comfortable.

He tried resting in a few different places. He tried sleeping by one of the officer’s computers, but he didn’t love that spot. He also tried curling up in a cardboard box, but it wasn’t right either. He wanted something more comfortable and warmer to sleep on.

Finally, the kitten settled into the paper tray on the top of one of the office’s printers. He quickly found that this was the perfect spot! It was warm and cozy, and he decided he wasn’t going to move again.

Luckily for the kitten, the sheriffs were fine with their new little trespasser. They wrote about the kitten on their Facebook page:

“This little kitten has been loitering around our Eden Township Station for the past 2 days. We think he was trying to walk on as a K-9 unit and refused to leave until he got into the building for an interview.”

The sheriffs summed up the little kitten’s personality in just a few words:

“He’s got a big attitude but is super cute.”

While all the officers liked the kitten, one officer completely fell in love with him: Deputy Sierra Scalise.

Scalise has wanted to be a police officer since she was a kid. She loves serving and protecting her community.

“We’re relentless, very brave. We represent a very strong force. Our families and the communities that we serve,” Scalise told KTVU.

Scalise’s compassion doesn’t just extend to humans—she loves animals too. And so, when the kitten showed up at the police station, she and the cat quickly bonded. After spending a couple days with the kitten, she decided that she wanted to officially adopt him!

Now, all she needs is the perfect name for this mischievous little cat.

When this stray kitten walked into the police station, he was most likely just looking for a place to spend the night. Little did he know, his decision to wander into the station would lead to him finding his forever home. We’re so happy that this kitten’s story has a happy ending!
