Few things are more precious than the bond between siblings. Even though we may not always get along with our brothers or sisters, they’ve been around our entire lives and know us better than anyone else. As much as some of us like to complain about their “annoying” habits, the truth is we’d be quite upset if anything ever happened to them.
Ares and Aphrodite are brother-and-sister kittens that share an incredible bond. They two arrived at the Wisconsin Humane Society’s Door County Campus in December 2017. However, with their two adorable faces, it didn’t take long for the adoption applications to start rolling in.
Ares, the loyal brother kitten, was adopted after only a month of being in the shelter. A young woman named Alana Hadley had fallen for him the moment she met him and was excited to take him home. Alana wanted to bring Ares’ sister Aphrodite home too, but unfortunately, the sister already had a loving family waiting.
Alana was excited to introduce Ares to his new home, but when they got there, she noticed something seemed to be bothering him. The snuggly kitten would not stop meowing. From the moment the little guy opened his eyes to the moment he let them close, he would meow and meow and meow— and Alana didn’t know what to do.
After trying to comfort little Ares with snuggles, food, and love, a confused Alana finally contacted the Wisconsin shelter, writing the following note:
“He has been almost non-stop meowing until he goes to sleep and then meows again when he’s awake… when we put him down, or when he’s in his separate area.”
“We think he misses his sister and is grieving being taken away from her.”
Alana was heartbroken that Ares was missing his little sister. But, when the shelter responded to Alanna’s message, they had some surprising news. Turns out Aphrodite was available for adoption; the family who was originally supposed to take her had backed down.
As soon as Alana heard the news, she made her way to the shelter to scoop up little Aphrodite and reunite the bonded pair. As can be imagined, Ares was over the moon to see his sibling, and his constant meowing immediately stopped.
“They both love to cuddle and purr like crazy when we are holding them.”
“The sleep most of the day, and they cuddle each other when they sleep.”
A puuuuuuurfect ending to such a sweet tale.
