Grace Serena and her partner decided they wanted to adopt a kitten. They thought it would be the perfect way to help her partner cope with some personal hardships, because who doesn’t love a kitten? When they showed up to the shelter, however, they walked out with not one – but two kittens instead.
Marlow and Mittens are two absolutely precious kittens that were found together as strays. Little did the rescuers know – these two sweet boys were close. Very close.
After being dropped off at the RSPCA shelter, the staff saw that the kittens were friendly and close with one another, but thought it would be fine to separate them and adopt them out to different families. The shelter thought their chances of finding homes would be much greater this way.
Grace and her partner saw Marlow’s posting on the RSPCA website and immediately fell in love – they were told that he had a bond with another cat, but it was no problem to separate them. The couple decided to go to the shelter to meet Marlow but didn’t have a clue what was in store for them that day.
The two kittens wanted to make it very clear to any potential adopter that they never wanted to be separated. So – they decided to take their cuteness to an irresistible level.
Marlow and Mittens snuggled up super closely and put on the sweetest little faces. When Grace and her partner saw Marlow for the first time, they knew that he and Mittens had a bond that was stronger than they were told.
“They did mention that this particular pair were closer than most, but were definitely willing to adopt them out separately,” Grace told The Dodo. “I myself was attached to Marlow, and my partner Jake was extremely fond of Mittens. After a long and hard deliberation, we decided it was either no cats or both cats, and let’s be honest, no cats is NEVER a good idea.”
Their plans of adopting a kitten quickly turned into two, but Grace and her partner couldn’t have been happier to give these two cutie pies a home.
“After getting them home, I was expecting them to both be quite anxious about their change of environment,” Grace said. “I have adopted pets before and usually the first 24 hours you find that your new pet is hiding somewhere they ‘feel safe’ and they won’t come out until they have absorbed the new scents and surroundings.”
“These two were the polar opposite. They were initially inquisitive and then immediately made themselves right at home on our bed. They immediately claimed the place as their own and seemed extremely comfortable in their new home.”
Of course, the kitties celebrated in their new home by doing what they do best – cuddling. They were so happy they were still together!
Marlow and Mittens couldn’t be more grateful that Grace and her partner took a chance on both of them. Plus, two kittens have proven to be better than one.
“They have been an absolute blessing for my partner who was experiencing a few hardships recently,” Grace said. “They have brought so much joy, laughter and happiness into this household and I honestly couldn’t be happier with our decision to adopt them both.”
Happiness is written all over Marlow and Mittens’ faces. We wish them many more years of snuggle-time together!
