As most of us now know, just about any dog is a sweetheart if it’s raised right – even previously discriminated-against animals like pit bulls.
Pit bulls are simply a breed that’s a cross between a bulldog and a terrier. But they’ve gotten a bad reputation over the years simply because people bred them for dogfighting, something that is now illegal but still exists.
It’s no surprise that this made some dogs aggressive not just towards other animals but people as well – dogs raised for blood sports are not typically treated well outside the ring either!
But violence isn’t breed-specific, it’s dog-specific, and humans play a major role in the disposition of their pets.
In a review of research done by the American Veterinary Medical Association, they found that while pit bulls deal with a strong breed stigma, they are no more dangerous than other dogs.
But research also found that owners of stigmatized breeds were “more likely to have involvement in criminal or violent acts,” making it look like pit bulls were synonymous with bad behavior. (It wouldn’t feel so good to have people make this assumption about you because of others, would it?!)
While some places ban the breed entirely, plenty of pit bulls are loving pets as well as heroic law enforcement or search and rescue dogs.
And if you’re anything like Licious, you are a sweet girl who LOOOOVES kittens.
In a YouTube video that’s now been viewed over 10 MILLION times in the last eight years, a YouTuber brought home a tiny orange kitten to meet her pit bull. And knowing she could trust her dog, she flipped on the phone to get a recording of their meeting.
Like most dogs, Licious just wants to please her owner so she’s very patient and lets the kitten explore.
The kitten goes for her feet first – which are about the size of the feline’s head!
Licious probably barely feels it until her tiny claws (which, of course, she doesn’t quite know how to use yet) come out.
But even then she just slowly moves one foot out of the way.
The kitten seems pretty sure these dog feet are a toy, despite the fact that the two animals have looked each other in the eye and presumably acknowledged that they’re both a part of the same household.
But, hey, if people are going to participate in stigma, at least the statement that cats don’t care and do what they want is pretty accurate!
It’s clear this kitten is going to be the boss someday.
For her part, Licious is now interested in getting to know this new furball – and what better way to do that than give her a quick sniff and then lick her?
Grooming is often a show of friendliness, so Licious likely just wants to say “welcome!”
Of course, it only takes a lick or two to groom her whole body – and while we’re not sure how drooly Licious is, her mom has to warn her to back off the love a little (mostly because her tongue is enough to knock the baby over!).
The pup doesn’t see the problem since the kitten started it, but she follows the gentle command to stop licking while she gives a sweet look to the camera.
Such a good girl!
The animals’ owner has a YouTube channel full of her pit bull playing with this kitten and at least one other cat, so be sure to check it out to see more of the lovely Licious.
