Dogs are some of the friendliest, kindest, and most loyal animals in the world. With wagging tails and friendly kisses, they have nothing but love to give. Sadly, they don’t always receive that same level of love in return.
There are many dogs out there that are abused, beaten, and mistreated by owners who simply shouldn’t have adopted them in the first place.
And one dog was clearly in the wrong home, owned by a man who beat and kicked him on a regular basis. Fortunately, the man’s son had a much kinder heart than his father and decided to do an incredibly courageous thing for his canine companion.
This story took place in Mexico and was told by an animal shelter named Xollin. Workers from Xollin have to deal with a lot of abandoned and mistreated animals, but they hadn’t seen a case quite like this before.
One day, they found a cardboard box outside their door with a dog in it.
That’s pretty normal for any animal shelter, as many dogs and cats are simply dropped off outside these places without any real explanation, but when the workers looked closer, they spotted a note in with the pup.
The note had been written by Andrés, a 12-year-old kid with a very big heart.
Despite how badly he wanted to keep his dog, the boy knew that it just wasn’t fair for him to be in such a violent home, so he and his mom decided to go behind the dad’s back and drop the dog off at their local shelter.
Andrés, clearly struggling through this difficult experience, even left one of his own toys in with the dog so that he’d never forget him. Here’s what the note said in full:
My name is Andrés and I’m 12 years old. My mom and I decided to leave him to you. All of this is behind my dad’s back, because he was thinking of selling him. But he is always beating and kicking the dog. Once he kicked him so hard that his little tail got injured. I hope you can help him and take care of him. Here is a plush toy so he won’t forget me.
It must have been so hard for Andrés to give up his furry pal, but he definitely did the right thing here. The shelter workers at Xollin were immediately able to provide the care and love that the little dog needed.
They decided to name him Rene and wrote about him on their Facebook account, sharing some kind words for the boy who gave him up and letting others know about the story.
Plenty of people were touched by Andrés’ bravery and selfless actions, and many offered to adopt the dog themselves.
Rene had a fractured tail that needed to be treated, as well as some parasites that needed to be dealt with too. Fortunately, the workers managed to get him back on the road to good health and have been overwhelmed with all the messages of support and offers of adoption.
However, despite being pleased to see so much support, the workers also wanted to point out that they have plenty of other dogs in need of loving homes.
It seems that sometimes, people only seem to pay attention to the viral stories, ignoring all the other abandoned animals that don’t get quite as much attention. Every abandoned dog, cat, and other animal deserves another chance and a happy ending, so let’s hope that they all get the love they need, as well as hoping Rene finds his forever home too.
