Every year on August 26th, the world celebrates National Dog Day. It is a day set aside to encourage people to adopt dogs rather than buy them from pet stores or shops.

The day is also observed to honor all dogs, regardless of their shape, size, or breed among others.

On National Dog Day, thousands of dog owners across Colorado, United States celebrate their furry friend.

One woman from Westminster, Colorado, is appreciating the act of kindness that allowed her to experience this moment.

Teresa Boeklem couldn’t take any more bad news after a year of mourning. Not only did she miscarry, but her father lost his life after getting COVID.

Her mother passed away from cancer, and her aunt passed not long after.

As a result, she panicked when she returned home to find her 2-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, named Chloe, unresponsive.

Throughout the pandemic, Chloe had comforted her at every heartbreaking moment.

Boeklem was at a loss for what to do without her.

She was about to give up when she saw the high vet bills, but luckily, a “Good Samaritan” came to her aid.

Boeklem rushed Chloe to the emergency veterinary clinic. She was diagnosed with an autoimmune blood disorder.

The treatment bills totaled $2,255, which Boeklem could not afford.

She couldn’t, however, afford to lose Chloe.

“I looked up at God and I said, ‘really?’ … ‘now Chloe too?’ I said, ‘I can’t do this anymore. I can’t, I can’t.’ I said, ‘I feel extremely alone in this world,’” Boeklem told Denver7.

Unsure what to do, Boeklem explained the situation on Facebook.

Soon after, she received a response from a stranger, who offered to pay for all of her medical bills. Boeklem couldn’t believe it!

“She said, ‘I’m calling the vet right now.’ She said, ‘I’ll take care of all the bills.’ She said, ‘you go and take care of Chloe.’ I started hysterically crying. I mean I could not believe it,” Boeklem recalled.

In addition, the stranger offered to pay for Chloe’s follow-up visits. The person has not spoken publicly, but fame and recognition do not appear to be important to them.

They simply wanted to do something gracious for another dog lover.

During this stressful time, the stranger became like a mother to Boeklem, she said.

The individual spent the entire night on the phone with Boeklem, assuring her that everything would be fine. That person’s generosity had a huge impact on both Boeklem and Chloe.

“The takeaway for me is to pay it forward,” Boeklem mentioned.

Boeklem believes that the actions of this stranger saved Chloe’s life.

Her friendship with Chloe had been so important to her during her year of grief that she wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the dog so soon. Chloe now has a second chance at life thanks to the generosity of one person.

You never know how much a person’s kindness can influence another person’s life.
