Kind Dog Shares Water With Thirsty Koala
The moment when they look at each other will melt your heart!

What with all the recent coronavirus news, the tragic bushfires of Australia seem like a thing of the past.

But sadly, many parts of Australia are still dealing with the after-effects of this tragic event and are having to pick up the pieces months after the fires died down.

One of the most upsetting things was the effect that these terrible fires had on the animals. It was heart-breaking to read about the wildlife that was getting burned by the fires, not to mention the hundreds of thousands who were becoming dehydrated and losing their natural habitat.

Many locals in areas affected by the bushfires helped the animals in any way that they could. It became increasingly common to see koalas wandering around, lost and dehydrated.

One family living in Adelaide got to help out their own special little visitor during the month of January, which happens to be one of the hottest months of the year for Australia.

Andrew Frost shared a video of a very thirsty koala in his neighbour’s garden, and it truly is one of the sweetest things that we’ve ever seen. He captioned his video:

“Neighbours Kevin and family have a resident Koala that comes down for a drink when it is really hot. Riley Stone and Olivia Stone have a dog, Rusty, who knows the Koala well and they are mates (buddies for you in the US) – here they are hanging out filmed by Danielle Stone . (Yes the country is on fire, climate change is real and many politicians are in denial but nice to post something smiley).”

The video begins with the koala — who the family have affectionately named Quasi — having a tentative drink out of what appears to be a giant water bowl.

The Stone family’s dog, Rusty, then appears and begins to drink from the same bowl as his buddy. The whole thing seems as normal as if Rusty was sharing his drink with another dog, as opposed to a wild koala bear.

In an adorable moment, the pair both stop drinking for a few seconds and look into each other’s eyes.

Rusty sniffs his buddy curiously and then decides he’s had enough to drink, whilst Quasi, who is probably incredibly thirsty from being out in the relentless Australian heat, resumes his drinking.

So how did the unlikely duo first start drinking together?

Apparently, the thirsty guy has been making frequent visits for quite some time now. And the Stone’s sweet pooch is more than willing to share.

Rusty’s owner, Danielle, told 7 News,

“Rusty doesn’t mind sharing the water bowl at all. I think humans could learn a thing or two from this pair.”

It is heartwarming to see that, even in the midst of the bush fire catastrophe, the Australian residents were still finding something to smile about.

We wish them all the best for rebuilding their lives and hope everyone can move forward from this tragedy.
