A pet is a part of the family. Many pet owners, especially dog owners, love their pets as if they were their own children. One man loved his dog more than anything, and he was heartbroken when this little animal was taken from him.
Two people appeared in court, and both passionately insisted that they were the rightful owners of the same dog, whose name was Baby Boy. The plaintiff was a man, who claimed that the dog had been taken from him. The defendant was a woman who said she had purchased the dog legally.
The man was heartbroken as he pleaded his case before Judge Judy, an accomplished woman who is known for her toughness. “This is like my child,” he told her. He desperately wanted to get his dog back.
The woman, however, insisted that the dog was hers. She explained that she had bought him outside a shopping center for $50. The price was suspiciously low, but the woman had paperwork to back up her claim.
She handed Judge Judy a stack of photos, adoption papers, and veterinarian’s bills. It seemed like an air-tight case, but the judge had a hunch that something wasn’t right.
Both individuals fought fiercely for custody of the dog. They both loved this fluffy white creature, and they both wanted to keep the animal by their side. Only one, however, could leave the courtroom happy.
After a series of interrogations, Judge Judy was at a loss for what to do. She had learned from the defendant that the woman had brought the dog with her to court, so she ordered the pup to be brought inside the courthouse.
The dog could decide upon his true owner, the judge thought. She commanded the woman to “Put the dog down!” in her familiarly strict voice. She had to state this demand several times before the anxious woman finally placed her dog on the floor.
Tension filled the room as everyone waited to see what would happen next. Whoever the dog ran to first would be the rightful owner of the pet. You definitely don’t need to be there in person to see how passionate both people are.
The dog decided immediately. The loyal pup ran straight to the man, proving that his claim had been correct after all. His eyes filled with joy as he was assured that he could keep his beloved pet.
Judge Judy may not be known for her fondness of pets, but she certainly believed this dog’s happiness was an important factor in the case. It is clear to everyone that this man and dog love each other wholeheartedly.
As sad as it is, pets are stolen far too often. The American Kennel Club reports that there has been a 30% increase in stolen dogs in the past few years. Pet FBI has listed a number of reasons pets could be stolen, and some of them might surprise you:
- Certain purebreds can be sold for thousands of dollars.
- Pets may be stolen in hopes of gaining a reward.
- Un-neutered pets can be sold to breeders or puppy mills.
- Fighting breeds can be stolen for dog fighting rings.
- Angered family members or neighbors may steal a pet.
This information is heartbreaking, but the good news is that Pet FBI also lists multiple ways to prevent your pet from being stolen:
- Never leave your pet unattended.
- Do not tie up pets outside of restaurants or stores.
- Do not leave pets in cars.
- Do not leave pets alone for extended periods of time.
- Keep your pet on a leash when walking it.
- Keep track of your cat.
- Consider spaying or neutering your pet.
- Do not brag about a pet’s monetary worth.
- Invest in a collar that has good tags and a microchip.
It is sad to think that someone would steal a person’s pet, but it is always best to be careful. We are so glad Baby Boy was reunited with his rightful owner.
