If you haven’t heard of “Judge Judy”, here’s a little background. It’s described as an arbitration-based court show featuring Judy Sheindlin, whose role includes formally judging true to life small-claim disputes in a courtroom setup. “Judge Judy” first aired in 1996 and impressively earned three Emmy awards. Its high ratings made way for one renewed contract after another, reaching 25 seasons. While the 2020 season was said to be the last, another update states that a successor show would stream soon but its title and premiere date are yet to be determined.
If you try watching at least a couple of episodes, you’ll see how intimidating the no-nonsense Judge Judy can be in the courtroom.
Basically, what she says goes. Her steady gaze is enough to make anyone avert their eyes immediately and rethink their decisions.
But despite her imposing aura, she still has a soft spot. It’s precisely that uncanny ability to see right through anyone in the courtroom that determines either a good or bad ending for anyone involved.
In this particular case, the judge’s heartwarming decision was inspired by an unlikely participant in the courtroom: a dog.
See, a man and a woman appeared in court fighting over ownership of said dog. The woman kept refuting the man’s claims that he was the rightful owner. She definitely came prepared, showing Judge Judy paperwork from the vet.
The judge, however, didn’t seem to care about the paperwork. It turns out she already knew how to solve the case.
First step was to tell the defendant’s friend to bring in the dog. This elicited a chorus of “Awww’s” in the courtroom. The man’s face lit up as soon as he saw the dog. The dog, attentive and curious, looked about until his eyes landed on the man.
“Hey, boy! Hey, Baby Boy! Hey man!”
Anticipating the dog’s reaction, everyone present seemed to hold their breath.
This was the moment Judge Judy instructed the woman to set the dog down.
As soon as the woman complied, the dog bolted towards the man, jumping on him immediately.
The judge wasn’t done yet. Little did everyone know she had something simple yet effective in mind. Judge Judy then told the man to pick up the dog. When he did, the dog began showering him with sloppy kisses.
That was enough for the judge.
“That’s all. Take the dog home.”
This case proves that witnesses and long speeches aren’t always necessary. Sometimes, just pure and simple logic and common sense does it.
These were the tools Judge Judy pulled out. And because of her quick thinking and sound judgment, the man and his dog were happily reunited again.
What a happy way to conclude a case – letting the dog decide for himself who his rightful owner was. You’ll love this case and how smitten the dog clearly was the minute it saw the man waiting!
Watch the video to witness the man and dog’s happily ever after, all thanks to the cleverness of Judge Judy.
