Humans have a natural tendency to form strong bonds and connections with one another and the animals we coexist with.

We’ve developed close relationships not only with our cats and dogs but also with more exotic animals like snakes, rabbits, birds, chinchillas, hamsters, iguanas, and even foxes.

The list of animals we’ve befriended is endless, and we continue to forge deeper connections with an ever-expanding array of creatures.

However, the treatment of exotic animals is not always equal.

Many exotic animals are exploited for their fur, tusks, skin, and other materials. This often results in the mistreatment of these animals.

To combat this, many sanctuaries and rescues have been established to protect our domesticated pets as well as our exotic friends.

In Minnesota, five women have taken it upon themselves to help some of our exotic fox friends by opening a sanctuary called Save A Fox Rescue.

This nonprofit organization is dedicated to rescuing captive-born foxes, meaning that none of the foxes who reside there could be released back into the wild in their lifetime.

At Save A Fox, they rescue foxes from various situations, including those that are sick, injured, or orphaned from fur farms. Many of the rescued babies have been rejected by their mothers and need to be bottle-fed to survive.

At the sanctuary, it’s easier to spot common illnesses that could be detrimental to the foxes, such as respiratory infections and coccidia.

This sanctuary is especially important for those foxes in need, as without it, they might not make it.

One of their special rescues is named Finnegan, who has a unique way of showing his mom just how much he misses her and wants her to come outside to play with him.

To get his mom’s attention, Finnegan pops his head up at the window, signaling that he’s saying hello and asking her to come outside and play.

Once she sees him, she goes to the door, and Finnegan is right there waiting for her.

He immediately starts to giggle with excitement as she bends down to give him all the love and attention he was asking for, smiling from cheek to cheek, basking in his time with his mom.

Finnegan continues to giggle as she pets his head, and she can understand that he’s asking her to go inside with him.

To which she reminds him why he is outside, “I’d let you inside but you’d just pee everywhere…yeah…the first thing you’d do is you would go on my bed and you’d pee on my pillows!”

Finnegan continues to giggle, and it’s evident that he’s not alone out there but with another rescue named Dixie. His mom continues to give him lots of love and attention, grooming him by picking the icicles off the fur on his chest.

This grooming is something his mate would be doing if he were in the wild. Finnegan can sense his mom is getting ready to go inside and gently rests his paw on his mom’s arm.

In response, she reminds him that she loves him so much but she’s getting cold and it’s time for her to go inside.

When she finally does go inside, Finnegan follows closely behind her and scratches at the door once she’s in.

She walks back past the window, and he pops up again, checking in on her and saying hello once more.

Caring for these adorable, giggly foxes is not a simple task. Adult foxes need to stay on a grain-free diet, consume raw meat, and eat their favorite fruits and vegetables morning and night.

They also need lots of time to play each day. If you’d like to stay up to date on the foxes and their day-to-day activities, you can follow their Instagram.
