At a vet, doctors and staff are used to greeting humans with their animal babies. Or maybe another human who rescued an animal in need.
But this has to be the first time a doctor in a vet clinic has greeted a stray, injured dog who walked, by himself, inside the clinic for treatment.
Dr. Dayse Ferreira da Silva was in the reception area, having just finished treating one of their clients, when the dog walked in.
The dog, who they later named Quindim, even waited for two people to exit the clinic before walking in. At first, Dr. Dayse did not see him because she was on her mobile.
She saw him when Quindim was finally inside the clinic and leaned against the wall.
“When he came in, he put the injured paw forward, as if to say hello and to show that he was hurting,” Dr. Dayse told The Dodo. “We were surprised because he knew where to ask for help.”
Dr. Dayse didn’t even hesitate and walked over to Quindim.
She noticed that her paw was injured because of a stuck nail. It was a simple problem that can be treated.
But when they took Quindim to the examination room, she realized he had more problems than just the injured paw.
She discovered that Quindim had a transmissible venereal tumor. It’s a highly contagious disease among stray dogs plus he had fleas. Dr. Dayse can treat him but it will take a while and will cost some money.
She turned to Instagram and sought the help of their clinic’s Instagram followers.
“This crowdfunding was made to help the treatment of the puppy [who] asked for help in a veterinary clinic in the City of Juazeiro do Norte. The veterinarian and owner of the clinic…made a brief evaluation on the animal and detected a wound in the paw and diagnosed with a tumor.”
“He remains hospitalized to perform the treatment, for approximately 40 days. Dr. Dayse Ferreira (the veterinarian), decided to create this… to raise funds for the entire procedure, [including] medication and hospitalization, and will cost around R$ 4,000.00. All the amount collected will be [donated to] NGOs that provide a beautiful job in our region,” they wrote on their Instagram post.
In less than a week, they were able to raise the amount needed to treat Quindim. Plus they also got a lot of applications and request to adopt the dog once he is healed.

Dr. Dayse was so happy with the response of the public.
She promised to get back to the adoption request once he finishes his treatment in a month. And Quindim is doing so well and was just happy to be getting such special treatment.
“He doesn’t even look sick. He just is so excited to be around people who care about him,” Dr. Dayse said.
He’s such a playful and outgoing dog and he loves playing with the other animals in the clinic.

Dr. Dayse is just happy she was able to help Quindim in time.
And she is still amazed at the brave initiative Quindim displayed when he first arrived at the clinic.
“The most admirable thing is that he came on his own. His intelligence is beautiful,” Dr. Dayse said. “I’m sure he will find a home that will welcome him and receive him with all the love he deserves.”

And with all the numerous clamoring to adopt him, Quindim will definitely never have to go out and live in the streets anymore.
