We all have a favorite song or two. Usually, our favorite songs are associated with some memory that we are fond of (or maybe not so fond of)! Whether that moment was a breakup or a celebration, our favorite songs make up the background music to the moments in our lives.

This Husky seems to have found his favorite song.

Hice the Husky loves to sing. It makes sense because Huskies are known for being quite vocal! Rescue Every Dog says:

Siberian Huskies are vocal. They rarely bark, but will whine, or moan, and also chirp and howl. Head held high, they will produce one of the most haunting song like sounds. Now this Siberian song fest may be music to the ears of a Siberian and the Siberian Husky fancier, but the neighborhood may not agree.

One day while Hice was getting ready for a nap, he heard “his song” come on.

Getting ready for a good nap can be tough sometimes. Is the fan on, why am I so hot, what is that noise – all questions that plague the soon-to-be napper. It seems Hice was going through the same thing. As he was getting ready for a nap, a certain song came on the radio.

Only, this wasn’t just any song. It was his favorite song of all time!

We all know the song that Hice heard. The hit classic by James Brown, “I Got You (I Feel Good)” was all it took to ensure Hice never got to the nap. As it turns out, that song is Hice’s favorite of all time! As the first notes came through the speakers, Hice perked up and got ready to sing it!

As the song starts, Hice starts singing along with the words.

Who knew that Huskies could sing! As the familiar melodies pump through the room, Hice is absolutely loving it. Barking, whining, and howling are just a few of the “vocal techniques” that the happy Husky uses to join in with Brown.

Even though he doesn’t “sing the words,” you can tell he is trying to join it!

Obviously, we all know dogs can’t talk (or at least they wait until their humans leave anyways). Hice doesn’t let that stop him from trying to sing along with the melody of the song! Honestly, can we even blame him? Most individuals can’t resist singing along with the classic “I feel good!” parts come up. It is just one of those upbeat songs that everyone loves.

There seems to be some science behind animals and music.

Music is a purely human invention (at least in the way we understand it). While we often will put human characteristics onto our beloved pets, what does science have to say about their ability to enjoy music?

It seems that animals don’t have a preference for genre or lyricism, but rather prefer sounds that are common to their species.

Snowdon is an animal psychologist who researched this phenomenon. He says:

They enjoy what he calls “species-specific music”: tunes specially designed using the pitches, tones and tempos that are familiar to their particular species.

Essentially, music that is too low or high is not enjoyable for humans because we can’t really understand or comprehend it. It sounds jumbled. The same thing is true for dogs and cats. The music that we listen to is a bit jumbled for them but if there is something that falls within their range, they seem to enjoy it!

Who knows if Hice is a true James Brown fan or not, but we can all still sing along and feel good.

That’s the beautiful part of music, too, isn’t it? The ability to experience it together and with the people (and animals) you love. the most.
