In the midst of quarantine, we all run the risk of turning into a full-blown “couch potato.” What is a couch potato, you might ask? Well,
a person who spends little or no time exercising and a great deal of time watching television.
Coming off of the fifth television series we have completed in the last few weeks, it seems like the shoe fits a little too well for most of us.
A couch potato is usually a human, but apparently, it can be a dog, too!
When we think of dog breeds that are potential “couch potato” material, we probably think of the flabby, drooly dogs that we see. A bulldog seems like it would make a great couch potato. It is bulky, sleepy, and just downright looks the part. Another one might be a pug! Their squished faces and wheezy breath shows that they don’t get all that much exercise, right?
This video shows exactly which breed is a couch potato!
Turns out, it was a husky all along! Who would have guessed that such an athletic breed was the one that loved sleeping on the couch so much? This husky is named Zeus and, in this video, proves why he is the “couch king.”
Zeus’ mom came in to ask him to go on a walk.
Normally, this isn’t an issue. Dogs often JUMP at the idea of going outside and love a chance to run around for a bit. As a husky, you would expect Zeus to as well! Just look at this crazy fact:
A well trained Siberian Husky can run up to 125 miles a day. They can cover this distance while maintaining 10 to 11 miles per hour speed. The average pet husky that lives with people in a house can run from 10 to 20 miles per day – Bark Story
It seems Zeus had other plans!
When his owner comes into the room and asks to go for a walk, we immediately see his stubborn side come out. He raises his head and starts mouthing off to his mom! What a rebellious child. His brother comes over and seems to say, “Come on, Zeus, let’s stop arguing and go outside!”
Zeus and his mom have a spirited debate for a little while.
Like any little kid, Zeus argues as well as he can, refusing to move. He must be super comfy if he doesn’t want to move. This “well trained and during athlete of a breed” is officially a couch potato!
“Stop talking back, let’s go.”
Huskies are infamously known for their mouthy behavior. They love to talk, even if that sometimes gets them in trouble! Daily Dog Stuff says:
Huskies‘ howling is a reflection of their big personalities. If they’re told to do something they don’t want to or put in a situation they’re not comfortable with, they won’t be afraid to announce it.
When the video ends, we aren’t sure who won the argument!
It’s impossible to tell, but we would all be wise to put our money on mama! If anyone knows how to deal with a stubborn kid (or dog), its mama. My guess is that Zeus got out what he wanted to stay and then continued on to his walk (which he probably enjoyed).
