Picture this: You’re watching the evening news, and suddenly, a furry face pops up on your screen.
No, it’s not a new anchor; it’s Storm, the mini Goldendoodle who’s become a bit of a celebrity in his own right.
Storm is no ordinary pup — he’s known as the “Weather Dog,” and he’s got a knack for stealing the spotlight during live TV broadcasts.
Storm’s human, Anthony Farnell, is a seasoned meteorologist who’s been in the weather industry since 2003.
He became the Chief Meteorologist at Global Toronto in 2006.
The dynamic duo has been working together for quite some time, and it’s clear they share a special bond.
The name “Storm” wasn’t just a whimsical choice; it was the result of an online poll that Anthony happily obliged.
Since then, Storm has been living up to his name, often making surprise appearances during weather reports.
“Storm the Weather Dog is what he is commonly referred to,” says Anthony.
Storm’s first brush with fame came when he unexpectedly popped up on screen while the news anchor was delivering a story. The video instantly went viral.
“Thankfully it was during a good news story,” Anthony recalls.
The occasion? “Take Your Dog to Work Day,” a campaign that Anthony enthusiastically participated in.
Since that memorable day, Storm has become a regular fixture on live TV, especially during weather segments.
During one such broadcast, Anthony was explaining the weather conditions and upcoming forecasts when Storm casually strolled into the frame.
For those who work at the news agency, Storm’s appearances have become almost routine.
But for first-time viewers, it’s a delightful surprise.
“Though at the news agency, this scenario is already almost normal, people watching this the first time would see it a bit awkward, but nonetheless cute,” Anthony notes.
Despite the unexpected interruptions, Anthony and Storm always manage to keep things professional.
“As usual, Anthony and Storm still professionally pulled it off and managed to stay on course with the news,” says the report.
While Anthony discusses temperatures, Storm is often seen munching on treats, yet he remains calm and composed on camera.
Storm isn’t just a TV star; he’s also a beloved member of the news agency.
“Storm makes a tour on every desk in the entire station looking for treats,” Anthony shares.
The downside? Storm is gaining a bit of weight from all those treats. But Anthony wouldn’t have it any other way.
“It’s better for the dog to be with him than leave him at home, all alone. It makes work much easier, especially during long work days,” he adds.
Outside of work, Anthony and Storm are active community members
. They visit schools to teach kids about weather and meteorology, and they’re involved in various charitable events like Toronto Humane Society’s “Paws in the Park” and Global News’ “Dog Days Of Summer.”
So, the next time you’re watching the weather report, keep an eye out for Storm. You never know when this adorable furball might make another cameo!
