Beau thinks he’s a horse. Except that he’s not. He’s a black Labrador Retriever. But since he grew up with a horse named Knokke, he thinks he’s a horse.
And Beau sure does love that horse.
While Beau has a brother named Ripple, who is also a Black Lab, he still just wants to constantly be around Knokke.
“When Beau was little, he had no idea that he wasn’t a horse. From the very beginning, he wanted to be with Knokke and he wanted to lick his nose, and he wanted to sniff him,” says Beau and Knokke’s mom.
Now that Beau is a little bit older and a little bit bigger, he’s still in love with Knokke.
His favorite thing to do is to walk up to his horse buddy and give him kisses.
“If Knokke doesn’t put his nose down, he jumps up to him,” Beau’s mom says. “And he is just trying to lick Knokke. If he puts his head down, he licks all over his nose and licks around his eyes.”
And amazingly, Knokke is just as affectionate right back with Beau as Beau is with him.
“They’re’ good friends and they play. Knokke likes to muzzle him [Beau]. Beau likes to be scratched,” his mom says. “He’ll roll over and Knokke will scratch his belly.”
Apparently, having a horse and a dog buddying up isn’t one of the stranger things in the world.
“Because of the nature of dogs and horses, it’s more than likely they’re going to get along just fine,” the website Wag! writes. “They’re both companion animals who prefer company, and as long as they’re well-behaved and respectful, there shouldn’t be any issues.”
Since Knokke pretty much taught Beau everything he knows, Beau acts just like Knokke does.
He loves to jump over the jump bar, eat hay and carrots, roll around in the hay, and lie around in big muddy puddles.
“He goes and gets in the water troughs too. He’ll be sitting in the water trough, especially when it’s warm outside,” mom says.

The best way to describe this silly pup is “floppy.” At least that’s how his mom explains it.
“He’s always falling over. He’s always walking as slowly as he possibly can. He runs occasionally, but really he walks everywhere,” she said.
“And he wants to be next to you and he wants to be with Knokke and he has no idea that maybe he’s in the way.”
But Beau gets a pass since he’s so darn adorable.
It warms his mom’s heart to see him and Knokke get along so well.
“It’s just so cool to see them run and play,” she says.
Beau and Knokke’s relationship is so sweet that it was featured on The Dodo. Their video about Beau and Knokke ended up being viewed over 322,000.
“Okay, the belly scratches and the hop over the jump bar are just too cute!” wrote one commenter.
