Imagine eating dinner then someone you can’t see speaks to you.
What would you feel?
Confused? Frightened? Or suspicious of the food you’re eating? What would you do first? Investigate? Listen? Or bolt the heck out of the place?
Before you think of an answer, watch first what this unsuspecting fellow reacts to the same situation.
It started with a delicious dinner.
It was an idyllic day for this deer in Pennsylvania. The deer was busy munching on a good selection of plants just like it usually does.
However, as shown by Ring footage from a pleasantly baffled homeowner, the deer was a bit too far from home.
The deer was in somebody else’s yard, to be much more specific. And it was grazing on some garden bushes.
It was then that the homeowner decided to “interrupt” the deer’s breakfast.
“Hey! What are you doing?”
The homeowner asked through the camera’s speakers in a playfully curious tone, “What are you doing? Are you eating my bushes?”
The deer looked exactly how it would when it’s caught in the headlights.
It was stunned at first.
Then the owner asked the deer once more if it was eating the bushes.
Maybe realizing that someone is watching him, the deer’s expression turned into something like a dog being scolded for doing something wrong.
It’d been caught in the act.
It paused, maybe contemplating if it was the perfect time to bolt or continue eating.
The owner knew it meant no harm, but judging by her voice, you can say she’s thoroughly amused.
She then greeted the deer with, “Okay, good morning!” and coaxed it to just continue eating.
You can even hear a man quipping “Don’t eat my trees!” with the woman following up with “Only eat those bushes. Bye-bye!”
The homeowners shared that the deer often hang out in their yard and is a common sight in their neighborhood.
Sometimes, her husband chases them away but most of the time she talks to them. She said that the encounter happened while they were out of town.
They don’t mind the bushes becoming fodder because they are wary of something else.
“We had a large bear wandering the neighborhood. The first we noticed the bear was when we were out of town and our Ring Doorbell caught him walking by our front door.” The homeowner said, as quoted by Newsweek.
She said that they immediately alerted their daughter who was home at that time.
Now, they were just thankful that the Ring warning showed a deer doing what they do around plants.
Deer sightings in neighborhoods aren’t unique.
Through various developments and human activities encroaching on wildlife, animals visiting human settlements are becoming much more common.
In order for residents to co-exist with these otherwise cautious species, experts at the British Deer Society suggest that homeowners provide them with natural alternatives rather than garden plants.
They recommend letting brambles, dandelion, and sweet lupin, among others, thrive in gardens so deer visitors can eat them rather than your mother’s rose bushes.
