The number of homeless people in the world is staggering.

No matter where you live, you have probably seen a homeless person on the streets. Most people don’t know how to help, so they try to ignore the problem. That only makes things worse. Luckily, some people choose to take action and find a way to help those in need.

Homelessness doesn’t only affect humans; it can also affect pets.

When it is cold outside, going without shelter can be dangerous. A Detroit man knows that all too well. He has been homeless for a little over six months. His only companion has been his dog, Max, who he rescued as a puppy.

Things started going downhill for Julian Terrance when his young son died. He was devastated and wasn’t sure how he was going to go on. Then, he found a small puppy and had a new reason to live. His pup saved his life and helped him get over the loss of his son.

He said:

“This was the next best thing. It helped me get over my son’s death. This is my dog; this is my baby. Anything he ever needed I always made sure he had it. I go above and beyond the call of duty because I know he would do it for me.”

Julian had no job or a home, but he knew he had to do what he could to help the homeless pup.

Being homeless with a dog makes it even harder to get back on your feet. Julian couldn’t even go to a shelter, because they don’t allow pets, and he refused to leave his dog.

Julian said:

“Neither of us asked to be here. He didn’t have anybody like I didn’t have anybody. He watched my back and I watched his back.”

It seemed like Julian and Max were going to have to deal with being homeless and that there was just no way to get out of the slump they were in. Then, 313 K9 and Kitty Rescue saw them walking. They wanted to help the duo, but they were limited in what they could do.

They offered to take Max for a while and give him the care he needs.

Julian wouldn’t have to worry about feeding him or leaving him alone to go to shelters or even job interviews. This could make a big difference in both their lives.

Julian wasn’t sure about it at first. He and Max had been together for months, and he had come to enjoy their time together. How would he go on without his faithful pet? The rescue made him a deal that they would not let Max get adopted by anyone else and would simply care for him until Julian could get back on his feet and make a better life for himself and his dog.

Julian seemed to like this idea, and he let Max go to the rescue.

Julian is more motivated to change his life now and is excited about the life he and Max will have together sometime. He knows they both deserve better, and he is going to work hard to make that happen. The best thing about Max being in the rescue is that Julian can visit him and check on him anytime he wants.

The friends were recently reunited and got to spend a few minutes together. Julian was glad to see his dog doing so well and was happy to spend some time with him. Hopefully, Julian will continue to work hard to improve his life so he and Max and be together permanently.
