Paquito the Chihuahua absolutely loved his human parents, and his parents loved him right back.
Paquito was especially close with his dad. The two did everything together, and they shared an incredible bond. When Paquito was a puppy, his dad would carry him around in his pocket. Paquito loved riding around in the little pouch!
Tragically, Paquito and his dad didn’t get as much time together as they deserved.
In 2012, Paquito’s owner became sick, and he sadly didn’t recover. Paquito, his mom, and the rest of their family were all devastated.
In the six years since his owner passed away, Paquito has bonded with his other family members, but he still misses his dad too. This became clear in September 2018, when Paquito smelled a familiar scent for the first time in years.
Paquito’s owner’s niece, Evlyn Castro, shared the incredible story on her Twitter page. According to Castro, she and her aunt were sorting through a box of her uncle’s old clothing that had gotten wet in a recent rainstorm.
As soon as they pulled the clothing out of the box, Paquito’s ears perked up. He quickly ran over and started smelling the clothes. Then, he began snuggling with it.

Castro and her aunt were both touched by Paquito’s display of love. It was clear the pup still shared an incredible bond with his late owner.
“He felt his smell after years,” Castro told The Dodo. “He did not want to move away from the clothes. It was very emotional.”
Paquito stayed in the pile of clothing for a while, snuggling with the shirts and sniffing them. Castro and her aunt were amazed to see the little dog’s reaction.

Castro shared the video on Twitter, where it quickly went viral, receiving over 200,000 views. Everyone shed a tear when they saw little Paquito’s devotion to his late owner.
While Paquito still shares an incredible bond with his deceased owner, he’s also surrounded by people who love him, including Castro and her aunt. Paquito’s family understands what he’s going through, and they’re able to give him all the love and care he deserves.
“Paquito is a super loved dog,” Castro said. “We love him very much and are here to give him all that he needs.”
Paquito is a sweet dog who clearly still loves his owner more than anything. We’re so glad Paquito has such a wonderful family who can help each other get through this difficult time.
